Actually, for what it's worth, Hillary Clinton's mom has died. So she will not be getting any better. Sympathies to Hill.

I worked last night. We handed out treat bags (FULL ones, I was surprised at everything in them - not just candy, there were the tiny bags of chips, some Hostess pastries, and each bag had one of those mini drinks in it, too). For some reason, our store director decided that employees could dress up last Thursday, but not last night. But we got a fair amount of kids in costume in with their parents.
It being a Monday, I guess all the teens/twenty somethings did their celebrating (and drinking) over the weekend. Currently trying to plan a day trip to Galena, IL. I won a tote bag from Barbra Annino, who lives there, and during the course of our email conversation about that, it was decided that we really need to take a trip up there. Deb, know anything about Galena?? ETA: Well, I guess that kind of flopped as a vent and rant, huh?? LOL. Last edited by phenomshel; 11-01-2011 at 04:05 PM. |

I don't really know anything about Galena, except that it's supposed to be a great place to visit! You'll have to google for anything else.

I read too slow. Given my current pace of reading it would take me 415 years just to read the number of books published in Canada in 1996.

Phishers and spammers need to be punished. Severely. I'm thinking we should bring back public humilitations. I'm not talking long punishments. Just severely humilating and so every one and their dog knows who they are.

Sorry to disagree, but I don't think public humiliation would work. The sorts of people who do these things are oblivious to what others think of them. They have their own self-image and are quite sure that's how the world sees them. Most are quite surprised when they learn that this is not so!
Avoidance of 'Public humiliation' used to be the basis of Japanese behavior, but that was when Japan was a 'village society.' There was very little crime and almost no mis-behaving by kids as everyone in the village knew who it was doing it, and the entire village would shun them (or correct their behavior.) As Japan emerged into an 'Apartment Society,' no one knows the people down the hall or on the next floor, and as a result, the crime rate has soared through the roof in the past 40 years. According to Interpol, Osaka Japan leads the world in motorcycle theft and international vehicle transporting! Japan... the place everyone thinks of as having no crime.... Wrong. Japanese Juvenile delinquency is quite out of control already, approaching the levels found in inner-city USA. Right now there is no punishment given when a kid shoplifts... providing he/she 'apologizes' in a sincere manner. Fighting in schools, attacking teachers with a pair of scissors, shoplifting, etc.... NO PUNISHMENT... All that's the kids have to do is apologize sincerely enough. So the kids learn to apologize, and continue their improper behavior on and on and on... An 17 year old can steal 5 cars, get caught 5 times, and never spend a day in custody. There is nothing being done to teach him otherwise. Then take a look at Singapore... There is virtually no juvenile delinquency. The crime rate is almost non existent. There is punishment. Physical punishment. Perhaps too stringent, but there is no denying the results. Compared with other countries, there is virtually no crime there. Take the Phishers, take the scammers, take the crooks, the hackers, the virus-spreader, etc., and beat the hell out of them every time they hurt other people. Beat them hard. I'll bet they don't do it again. Singapore's 'caning' isn't done with a hickory switch. It's done with a five foot long 2 inch thick rattan bat. The guy who swings it takes a running start and a big wind-up. It's a VERY effective deterrent to crime. Stitchawl |

Change of direction, with a real vent....
When we want to get a driver's license, most countries have three tests that are required; Skill, Written, and an eye test. We need to add a Stupidity Check.... ![]() This afternoon I was sitting at a traffic light waiting to make a right turn. In Japan, that's a turn across on-coming traffic. The traffic signal had an auxiliary directional arrow to enable right turns as it is a very busy intersection. I was the lead vehicle, with another motorcycle behind me and a car behind him. The motorcycle behind me kept revving his engine very impatiently, creeping forward even though I hadn't moved. Traffic was heavy. There was a small space between on-coming cars but I decided I didn't want to risk trying to squeeze through the small gap. The idiot behind me decided he did, and shot across the road. He's dead now. Stitchawl |
