BOb, as to joint pain, I used to do distance running for fun 30 years ago but now have problems with my shins, knees, ankles, and back whenever I try to even gently jog. On my elliptical, the only negative sensation is a numbness in the soles of my feet after using it for a couple of hours. It goes away immediately and I understand it is common and harmless.

Just got back from swimming with Nortie. The water is so low in the pool that at first he couldn't get back on the slide by himself. The hose is running, and the water's high enough now that I was able to start the pump back up. The next step is to forget I've got the hose running and re-flood the yard.

the ellipitical is the main device I use at my physical therapists to rehab my knee (sure miss it here!) I can prop my kindle up on top of the control panel. pretty slick!

I had a stationary exercise bike, but had to give it up. The knees ain't what they used to be. Maybe I could use that device, but I have no where to put it.

No, he uses it to get out of the pool...and in, when I attach the ladder; which I only do when we swim. A bit of a safety device, given all the dogs who drown in pools every year. I coated the surface of the slide with non-skid. When I was shopping for a wire brush for the drill to rough up the surface of the plastic, the salesman asked why I was putting non-skid paint on a slide. I told him I didn't really like kids all that much. He gave me a mighty strange look.
