Here's a partial list of the items the new dog has chewed up:
• The upholstered piano bench for my Clavinova that I use daily but managed to keep in mint condition for years. • Every one of my shoes she can get a hold of. • The shoulder strap on my knapsack I wear to work. • One of the two canvas straps on my tool bag. • My wife's favorite house shoes. • My grandson's shoes. • My Sennheiser HD 212Pro headphones. In addition, she raids the garbage cans in the kitchen whenever she thinks I'm not watching. If I don't stop her, she'll have at least one rug covered in garbage. The other night she jumped up on the counter and got into the homemade lasagna my wife made from scratch with fresh ingredients. She ended up throwing it out. Norton's love has worn off. She plays too rough for him. She means well, but he's a little fellow. She's very loving, but the rest of the family hates her, and I'm losing my patience. I think I'm going to have to find her a good home with a large fenced-in yard with a high fence (she jumps over ours). Either that, or find a new family for me. |

Tom - we had a similar problem with Stella - she grew SO fast and wanted to play SO roughly with the older cats - that they didn't like her at all. And she is destructive when she gets wired. But we love her and want to keep her. But surviving until she matures and slows down a little is tough. Here's how we're dealing with the issue: 1. Crating - we have a large dog crate that I use as a kitten play pen or "time out" area. When she plays too roughly with the older cats or gets out of control, she's put in the crate for 20 - 30 minutes. Usually she takes a nap. And the rest of us get a respite. 2. Absolute rigid scheduling of events - so she learned when it was play time, feeding time, sleep time, etc. 3. I engage Stella in rough and energy consuming play activities - she's learned to fetch discs I fire through the house, plays with Nerf balls, etc. Sometimes the older cats join in - but usually just watch. 4. Protect the other pets - I monitor/listen for altercations - the older cats have learned to call me if Stella plays too rough. I used to have to always crate her, but now I just yell "Stella - go to your window!" - the deck door is her "time out" area - and she learned if she goes there and watches the birds, she won't get crated. 5. Put away fragile stuff - at least until her energy level drops a bit. 6. When she misbehave, divert her attention to an acceptable activity rather than just yelling at her all the time. For rambunctious dogs: 1. Sign up for dog training classes - for both of you! Check at your local shelter/rescue organization. 2. Introduce crating. 3. Establish regular play times - with very strenuous activities to wear her out. Find a local dog park - where she can rough up dogs her own size. It sounds like you all need some R&R to regain your perspectives - and make the correct decision for the entire family. |

She is learning, I think, but I'm not sure the pace of that learning can keep up with my family's growing dissatisfaction. I like the crate idea, and obedience training did help our old pit bull a bit, but he was well-behaved to begin with. She obeys, but only when I'm watching her. She does stop when I say stop, and the cat no longer hides from her.

Sure, in a few short weeks she's done more damage to the house than any hurricane that's ever come our way, but isn't Crystal beautiful? How is it that I'm the only one in the family who likes her?

Professional dog training. Choose one that comes to the home.
No more raccoons. Although, I see an abundance of squirrels so I may trap them too. |

My job.
Yesterday morning one of the managers accused me of leaving the previous day without asking permission to end my shift. Plus that previous morning she had yelled at me across the store while there were customers present. I take my job seriously and wouldn't ever leave without being told (I had asked MY manager, not the relieving shift manager, if I could leave and she said yes.) and am also very sensitive, so I was in tears by the time I left yesterday morning. I've an interview for another job today, and to quote A Chorus Line, "God I hope I get it." |

Who knows she may just have an abrasive personality and be unaware of it. It could help her if someone were to tell her to try to get along with others. At any rate, good luck with a new job. Unfortunately, I've found over the years that we always want the next job, UNTIL we've been there a while. ![]() Last edited by SameOldStory; 10-16-2011 at 08:08 PM. |

TWO COMPLAINTS
1) I've been seeing too many people wearing Spandex!!! AND IT'S GIVING ME NIGHTMARES! In reality, VERY few people that wear Spandex should. Over the past few days I've seen too much flab and too many hanging guts & butts. If I see much more I'll have to poke my eyes out. 2) The recent stories on vitamins making people die sooner. Not to offend those who take a dozen vitamins three or four times a day, but this isn't an era where our food sources are severely limited and we're not getting most of the vitamins that we need. I'll freely concede that many may have vitamin/nutritional needs that aren't fulfilled due to age, dietary, and medical circumstances. But I doubt that most of the billions of dollars spent on vitamins are really needed. So what's my rant all about? There was a study reportedly covering 39,000 women between the age of 55 and 69. It started 19 years ago. Those still living are now between 75 and 88. Of all those old people taking multivitamins 2.5% may have died earlier than statistics says that they should have. THATS 2.5%. In a group of anybody of that age that's statistically insignificant. But I keep seeing story after story about how vitamins are bad for you! The study has not said that the death of ANY individual was directly traced to taking multivitamins. It is ALL just statistics. Bad science is bad science. Period. I think I'll go take two multivitamins and cool off. Last edited by SameOldStory; 10-16-2011 at 08:16 PM. |

I watched a documentary and it made me so furious. See what the bureaucrats did to medical doctor and Ph.D biochemist Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski.
