Ah..didn't realize those weren't already there. 10.0.9 is essentially the stable release now. Just labeled beta to keep it under the radar a bit. Alpha doesn't add too much -- most won't need it unless they are trying to import a Kindle for Android key.

I don't know what the Alpha adds. But the Alpha is the current code and I've not had an issue with it. So I would go for the Alpha version.

The tools were originally written by many people, and were maintained by Apprentice Alf and Apprentice Harper until November 2021.

The latest version of the tools from the Apprentices is 7.2.1 for calibre 5.x

If you have any problems with this version, you should probably start using the version from noDRM

10.0.9 is not a preview release. It's the pre-release to 10.1 which has not yet come out.

The Alpha release is using the current code. So any changes since 10.0.9 are in the Alpha release.

I have to admit; I've never really understood why so many believe this one particular thread deserves to be so sacrosanct RE normal thread drift. No other thread is required to stay as topical as this one. If you wish only to be notified of new releases, there are much better, more efficient ways. This is by no means a moderator admonition, but my advice would be to lighten up. Talkers are going to talk. It's why forums exist.

Along with that, this is the general News section. I wouldn't expect a limited-focus thread that only discusses one topic unless it was on a specific sub section, like Calibre -> Plugins or some such.

Yeah, this thread has taken some heat over the years re what can and can't be discussed with respect to DRM, and there has been some quite strict moderation. The name of the thread has made it a touchy and fraught thread with respect to legalities, and that generally has been respected re posting content.

Longevity of the thread can't be an excuse for wilful narking, and that's what I am surprised hasn't been moderated out. (And you may consider this post as wilful narking)

See. Was that so bad?

As far as strict moderation goes: that has been primarily limited to Explicit DRM Removal Instructions. Which has remained consistent. We allow people to link to the site, we allow them to mention that new versions have been released. What we don't allow is hand-holding, step-by-step instructions to install, configure and successfully use DRM removal tools. Same as it ever was. But that sort of moderation is neither here nor there when discussing why some people think this thread should be absolutely limited to new release notifications with no other discussion whatsoever to be allowed. No thread on Mobileread gets that narrow of a purview.

It's OK to wish the thread had less "narking," but that doesn't mean anyone is entitled to a thread of their wishes. Or that MR is obligated to supply a thread consisting of absolutely nothing but new release notices for any particular software package.
