On the Sonystyle AU site, they have the 350 in blue! Not so on the US or UK sites. Plus, it's a new blue, no purple edge, if the pics are accurate.
I wonder if they will eventually sell all colors in all countries? |

@ GeorgieGirl2012 - yes understanding your point now, thank you. Does Sony think that everyone in the UK has fantastic eyesight! The smaller readers look super but for me to have a comfortable reading experience I need a large-ish font and I won't get enough words on the screen :-(

![]() It is only taller than 650, but has the same width, thus when you increase text size on 950 you get as much in one line as in 650. |

These are just first impressions, like I said I only got to play with them for a couple of minutes in the store. They also seem to have custom display software, as sliding the power button put it into sleep mode with a pretty picture displayed.
In terms of build quality, it's as well put together as any other electronic product, however it feels distinctly "cheaper" than my PRS-600. It is very obvious on the 650 that plastic is used throughout, and the aluminum plates almost don't even have bends in them; almost as if they cut some sheet stock, dropped it on an anvil to get the slight bend, and then screwed it together. It simply doesn't "feel" as industrial as last years model. It really struck me as an Apple product, looks slick and robust, but isn't real quality. The stylus has a fatter tip than last years, and it uses a plastic clip at the top which is the same color as your reader, unlike the silvery one last year. So for instance, the silver reader, which incidentally looks like painted glitter, has a white plastic stylus while the black one had a grey plastic pointer. I was very pleased with the screen quality, it is an exponential increase when you consider that there is no touch screen glare as well as the Pearl contrast. The time it took to refresh a new page did not strike me as vastly improved, it was only slightly faster than the 600 I brought with me. The full justification also did not seem to induce rivers from the two sample books I checked; but they had minimal margins and I was using a small font. I went because I'm tempted to purchase a 350, However, Sony obviously made sacrifices in the case of the reader, and it now feels as plasticky as any other cheap electronics to me. Now I'm unsure if I'll spring for a 650 and pass on the 600 to a family member or if I'll wait another year. |

I might be a bit behind the times, but I have now got my veey first reader and as it's the discontinued prs-600 I obtained if for the cut rate price of £149.99. In the middle of downloading all the 125 free classics from the Sony site you get easy access to when you register. Plus, of course, the free Mills & Boon that is also available.

Since you have seen the readers in real life I have a quick question for you though. Were the readers out on display plugged in with a USB cable for power? I'm just curious, since if they were it would mean that you can still use them while charging them. I guess that's the case, but it would be nice to get some confirmation. |

![]() When the reader was put into sleep mode in the store, there was a text box at the top instructing that it was in sleep mode and to slide the power switch in order to turn it on. That warning is what made me think it was custom, unless that's just a part of the pretty picture. |

Now if only Sony could actually figure out a way to sell ebooks in Canada.

In Canada i'm buying most of my ebooks from kobo. They are usually cheaper and without geographical restrictions.

Just got my hands on the Touch and Pocket Edition at the Sony store in the Pentagon City Mall
Nice and light and much better screen. Was able to compare them with the 300/600 side by side |
