Hum... Something not-related to the driver issue: with the prs500 GUI, you only display books that are in the .xml listing the books for the reader right ? Some way to browse the other files might be useful too.

I'm afraid that's not going to happen as the GUI is focused on ebook management and will support future devices (as I get my hands on them ;-)

Making a simple file browser GUI around libprs500 specifically for the sony reader should be a day's work, unfortunately, its not on my TODO list as I don't need it.

OK I see your point. I'll work on future devices too for the "News Stand" feature of Feedbooks. You'll help everyone managing their e-books, while we deliver them news ;-)

libprs500-0.3.43 root authority

I tried this release and got the following message under Fedora Core 6 linux-2.6.20-1.2952.fc6.
$ prs500 info
"Unable to find SONY Reader. Is it connected?"

After I login as root, it reports the device and version correctly.

Thanks

You don't necessarily have the rights to access USB using a linux account. Might be why you had this problem, and everything worked fine once logged as root (use sudo next time).

Look at the post-install setup section of the libprs500 wiki

Does the CLI support wild cards? I'm having trouble on XP. For example:

Quote:
C:\>prs500 ls b:/"Sony Reader"/database
cache.xml

C:\>prs500 ls b:/"Sony Reader"/database/cache.*
b:/Sony Reader/database/cache.* has an unknown error. Code: 0xffffd8f1L
Thanks,
Ken

The libprs500 CLI has been working great for me on Windows. I just purchased one of the new Dells with Ubuntu preinstalled, and followed the Feisty install procedure on the wiki. When I connect my reader and call "prs500 info", I get this error:

Quote:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/prs500", line 8, in <module>
load_entry_point('libprs500==0.3.56', 'console_scripts', 'prs500')()

File "build/bdist.linux-i686/egg/libprs500/devices/prs500/cli/main.py", line 111, in info
File "build/bdist.linux-i686/egg/libprs500/devices/prs500/driver.py", line 162, in run_session
File "build/bdist.linux-i686/egg/libprs500/devices/prs500/driver.py", line 260, in open
libprs500.devices.errors.DeviceBusy: Device is in use by another application:
Underlying error:Failed to set device configuration to: 2. Error code: -1
There are no apps open, other than the terminal. What do I need to do? Thanks

Ken

Ah a bug crept into the installer script for linux. If you run it as root it should work. I'll fix the bug in the next release.

Version 0.3.60 should fix this. Note that the installation instructions have changed slightly. Make sure you follow the updated version on the wiki.

Yes, thanks. FWIW, I actually got version 0.3.61, if 'libprs500 --version' is correct.

TTFQuery? FontTools? What do you have in store for us, Kovid?
