I'm withholding judgement until I can use one myself. I think this definitely has promise as an e-reader/netbook-ish note taking device for classes, but as SCION pointed out, no handwriting recognition technology is a deal-breaker for me. Lack of Flash support is also a deal-breaker for me as well.

We've got time before it's released to the general public anyway to make more discoveries about it, and AT&T's plans.

The big question I have is (and I know it's basically a rhetorical question at this point):

As a current AT&T Customer with unlimited texting and iPhone 3G/3GS data plans, will AT&T allow me to kill the data plan on my iPhone, get the data plan with the iPad, but keep the unlimited texting? I mean, because in all reality, IF (and it's a pretty big if) I get an iPad, I don't think I'll have much more need for the 3G data portion of the iPhone.

I disagree with this. eInk is far from dead. If I did get a device like this it would be for portable web browsing / email / twitter / facebook stuff no for simple recreational reading. People considering a Kindle for $250 aren't going to say... oh what the heck $500 (plus) is a much better idea.

I think I would get the 3G if I got one.... but not pay for AT&T. I think I have seen some places were you can buy pre-paid SIM cards for data and you don't actually have to pay $15 a month.

I am actually surprised at the prices. They are very aggressive... especially compared to the prices of the iPod Touch and the unlocked iPhone.

I think Apples stock is going to soar... that is the apple product we all should buy.. (actually should have bought it yesterday).

I believe this is false. Amazon takes a larger cut than 30% currently, both from paper and ebooks. While it may be the case that some books will be more expensive at iTunes than at Amazon, because Apple will not enforce a maximum on publishers, there is no reason to believe that all books will be more expensive through iTunes than anywhere else.

I think I'll wait and see what they come up with for the 2nd generation Ipad. $499 looks tempting but for only 16gigs? They would hold a lot of ebooks but I would probably fill it up too easily with videos and music, not to mention software and other apps.

My sentiments exactly. Kind of like the initial release of the MacBook Air. Of course I say this to justify not returning my Sony PRS-900.
