Yea.

Also, on this thread: See artificial vs "real" diamonds, which has some interesting parallels... (despite being physical objects)

Oh I will be buying the e-ARC of Mission of Honor

Then later on I'll get the final eBook off a Baen CD.

Honestly, here's the problem with the industry, it's the same as the music industry and almost the same as the movie industry is getting to. It's the fact that DRM is annoying and people either hate it for ideological or practical reasons. I just bought a PRS-900 and couldn't use the books I had bought on it for three days after I got it. Why? ADE freaked and nothing authorised properly. At that point I would have never minded and gone to my favourite darknets, but I can't get an Epub there or I wouldn't buy DRM'ed books.

That said, I have no problem paying about $10USD for a book, E or P, without DRM. Or even with DRM because it's the only way to get it in the right format. I have no problems with buying DRM'ed product for now too, considering it's the best way to get ahold of what I want. I hate, but I'll pay paperback prices for DRM'ed stuff for now. The thing is, it's going to go to the darknets if DRM keeps up and people figure out how to strip and upload and people care enough to do it. Heck, I'd do it if I could. But if they dropped the DRM I wouldn't bother. I payed for Pbooks, and if paying for Ebooks was easy and DRM free, I'd gladly do it. Until then, I'll break the system any way I can and hopefully they'll see that and change quick enough to make a difference.

Ah, I see I was unclear: It was a comment on this thread, not a reference to another thread.
