Well the reason I want to buy a txtr reader is that I want to be able to implement the functionality I want. So if it is open enough for that I will buy one.

I only want the mobi one.

I hope that's the case, and that they'll make it work - my reader is from November 2007, so likely in the first 5000 Cybooks made.
Well, I just wanted folders... everything else they supposedly added, for epub and pdf I could live without. I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to fit on small cybooks if they just added folders.

Stange, I had a broken screen once and I had a brand new Cybook within 5 working days. And I do not live in France. They even upgraded from 64MB to 512MB. The PID was the same so ther were no problems in that area

Why should I mind that much to do it with my cybook?
Easy: Because if I pay 300+ Euros I expect the device to do MORE than my current configuration with paper books and dictionary on the bed side table.

Not only is it a terrible idea as there are some users who do not want/need the ePub version anyway but what really puzzles me is that once that idea has been hatched there seems to be no way they change their minds about it - even if it means postponing a fully functional FW until the end of days.
Maybe they agreed to some pact with the devil that they would not release the mobi version until the ePub version is bug free - or the great master of below would collect their souls right now and reward them with an eternity of castigation.

When did this happen? I think there was a gradual reduction in the quality of customer service up until shortly before the German Opus was released, and a dramatic reduction since then.

What really irritates me is that I first learned that the Cybook was on it's way back from Fed Ex, not Bookeen, and that Bookeen has not bothered to respond to my questions about it.

Regards, Alex

Certainly not my experience. I've had prompt answers to all the e-mails that I've sent Bookeen since buying my Opus.

I also have no interest in ePub, I just want Mobi with folder support. If they have the Mobi FW ready, why not just make it available now? Why would they want to publish both FW updates at once? They are just making their customers very unhappy...

Since they seem to be lurking here on MR forums... Maybe because they much rather answer the questions of someone with 20650 posts, then one with just 399?!

Yes, but they make all of their customer alike unhappy. Probably they feel so strongly about their customers that they treat us like their kids. And you wouldn't favour one of your kids over the other...

Actually no, I doubt they spend much time on these forums because otherwise they would react differently.

Maybe Harry just sends them "better" e-mails, i.e. things they *CAN* actually answer and that precludes asking for an exact release date for the next FW ;-)

Yesterday the German news site of Heise had an report about new Ukrainian readers based on Netronix hardware, but with EPUB and PRC and Adobe DRM, and PDF, RTF, HTML and TXT. And they povide an SDK.
Maybe this will become the better firmware for the devices. I think the life will be more difficult for Bookeen.
