I have a Kindle I and a Sony 700 my wife has the Kindle II. I like all the devices and when it's all said and done for me all the features are nice, wireless, touch screen etc. I don't love one and despise the other and the same goes for the companies Sony and Amazon.
And, while I have often thought that a 700 with a good screen would be the best option, I can't say that I'm tempted to buy the 600. (However noting, that that kind of statement on my part is always subject to change), nevertheless, I don't see myself doing it. To me it's about content, because I like reading with an e-reader whether it be Kindle or Sony and have no reason to believe it would be any different with numerous other brands. So, for me it boils down to content and until somebody truly breaks the log jam of this device/this format I don't see myself purchasing any new devices. When somebody comes up with an open platform that allows anybody to buy content regardless of device, I will happily devote my reading dollars to them and likewise my device dollars. When I see a Sony, Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Goggle truly make an effort to break the log jam and put their customers needs before their publishers fears - they will have a devoted, passionate customer, for life - not until. And until then they are just an unimportant collection of bells and whistles. Last edited by fbrII; 07-31-2009 at 08:12 AM. |

I'd like to see a reader some day with page turn buttons underneath. The reason why is that under the device you have 4 fingers, on top just one. However I try to read one handed, as soon as I depress the button with the thumb my grip is almost compromised, spoiling my reading experience.
Back buttons can easily be felt and with use can become natural. Even with buttons on top you don't uses your eyes to turn pages, they're kept on the reading. Some other solution could be as easy as an external wired or wifi button pad, no compromission on grip. |

Why would they give it lower numbers if it is a new model is beyond me
![]() You would think they would come out with an 800 and 900 model instead ![]() Thanks for the info! At least it looks like there is something new in the works. ![]() |

Indecision, I was just about to upgrade to the 505, now do I wait for the 600 for a few bells and wistles or will it be like the 700, okay but not as good as the 505. I love my 505 but more and more books are PDF, EPUB supported by ADE. Except for touch screen does the 600 appear to be a better product than the 505?

At least you know what you'll get with a PRS505. There isn't much known for the PRS600, chief of all the release date. It's believed that the release will be announced at the news conference end of August (might even be earlier as it's strange that the announcement isn't done first in the US), but we have no definite indication of the actual release date. |

If they are intentionally marketing them as lower priced models, it would make sense.

I also see the PRS 600 as being a device that combines the features of the 505 and 700, so that kind of makes sense too. The price may also fall somewhere between the current 505 and 700 pricing. Maybe there will be a 705 model at some point, for those who want an integrated book light. I believe we will eventually see a larger screen device with a higher model number, such as 900. Possibly on October 1st? With an entry level 5 inch, an intermediate 6 inch, and a large screen reader in the PRS family, Sony will have all their bases covered. ![]() |

Those devices seem nice. My problem is that they still will not be available in Québec so my choice will be the Opus when Archambault offers it.

The only reason I jumped on the eBook reader bandwagon was because Sony temporarily dropped the PRS-500 to $60. If not for that, I'd probably still be using my Palm T/X for reading and dreaming about getting a Kindle. Still, my Sony Reader is probably my favorite and most used gadget right now.
I've been hoping to upgrade to the 505 at some point and I hope I have a chance to get one before it's discontinued in favor of these newer models (which seems likely). I think there's an important point here: someone needs to release a very cheap (sub-$100), entry-level ebook reader to get people into it. I'm the cheapest gadget-fan you'll ever meet and even I'm willing to pony up 3x-4x what I paid for the 500 to upgrade to a 505 because it has a "slightly" better screen and is easier to connect to the computer. |

If things are like they are, for me its time to wait.
I dont feel like going to change my 505 for any of these. I'm just wainting for some device with big screen, and not all the craps of wifi, 3g , touch that make it so expensive. |
