I'd like to enter as well...

My version of the 'airline turbulence' story is that one time, after boarding a plane and stowing my gear in the overhead, I was removing my dinosaur Rocket eBook (with its nearly dead battery - nine-plus years have taken its toll) from my bag before sitting down when it slipped...

Now, 22oz (plus leather cover) doesn't sound like a lot, but give it three feet to accelerate and some poor seated passenger's head as the target, well... even with the leather cover, it must have hurt quite a bit.

I'm pretty sure that during the rest of the flight he was entertaining dark fantasies about the window pane beside me failing at 39,000 feet.

So there! The real reason I need a newer, lighter reader: to preserve the life and limb of my fellow travelers (as well as myself)!

It's a public safety issue, really.

Pick me!

I should win because I would love to have an e-book reader, but currently can't afford one. I've never won anything in my whole life so winning would absolutely make my year... heck even my life!

I'm a complete bookworm so having an e-reader will also help prevent a future of tormenting backpain I could possibly suffer from lugging around copious amounts of books.

So in conclusion.. pick me and make this newbies day!

I would like to win a new eReader for a few reasons:
- My boyfriend is too cheap to buy me one (and I can't afford one at the moment as well)
- I want to give my PRS-505 to my sister, an English teacher, to convince her that she will really not miss turning pages.

I should win an ebook reader as it would be just the right thickness to balance a wonky table leg I have.

No, wait - that wasn't what I was going to post.

:thinks:

I should win the ebook reader because I miss having rows upon rows of nicely bound books, and want to replicate that feeling with rows upon rows of ebook readers in nice covers. And, well, I need to start somewhere (the Sony looks a bit lonely and daft on a shelf by itself)

Hrmmm... no. That doesn't sound too convincing either.

I should win the ebook reader so that I have a spare to give anyone who mugs me, thus hopefully provoking a life time interest in and love of reading, and turning them from the path of crime forever.

(ok - that sounds better - more noble 'n stuff. But... maybe not so plausible. Hrm... needs even more thought )

Actually the only reason I have for wanting to win an ebook reader, apart from being able to compare my Sony to a different device, is to have a spare one to somehow make look steampunky. And as that isn't really a good reason to win one, I think some-one else with a better reason should

Cool Why I should win the Free Ebook

I started reading ebooks about 10 yrs ago, using the HP1100 slate laptop, you know the one with the screen that folds out of the way. I'm recently 51, so my brain free associates randomly on Sundays. Hardly any contriol. Then after getting into the ebook scene, I browsed around the net for a full time device and came upon the Cybook, Gen 1.That was cool, a Windows CE slate, weak as anything get out that was marketed by the clever Booken folks. Actually was pretty good, except it was too heavy, too clumsy so I sold it back into the world and got a ROcketbook offa eBay fro about $50.00 Talk about a deal, talk about a device. Did one thing and onoly one thing and did it well. Has a back lite, easy to convert stuff to the .rb format (takes a modicrum of techiness), and dates back to the Space 1999 days. It's goofy enough that you can brandish it at seminars and get a smile, why? Because it does the same the job as the new Sony/Ectaco/Cybook3/Kindle, with the style a flash of Star Trek, The Shatner Generation. It looks like what the we hoped the future would look like. However, I will not turn down being the winner of a new generation ebook reader as the di-lithium crystal on my Rocketbook are dying out and the batteries are a pain to replace. I would not want a Kindle becasue the Amazon tie-in is loathsome, like a crack rock dipensing machine, I 'll be bying ebooks dropping 10 buck every few minutes, subscribing to the NYTimes or some other online mag thru Amazon's always on wi-fi. I've always liked Sony's products, used SOny palm pilots for years as ebook readers, very nice. Wouldn't mind the Cybook Gen 3, stay tru to my fave brandname. Altho Ectaco is a bizzarro brand name, Ech-Taco? WHo though that up, The Beach Boys? This is my Ectaco, sounds like something you don't wanna eat. ANd that is why I deserve the free ebook reader.

Please enter me into your ebook giveaway contest.

What would winning this contest mean to me? It would make me the happiest girl in the world. An exaggeration you say? Not in the least. I truly would be flying among the clouds if chosen as your winner of an ebook reader. I've been researching them since I first heard about them and the Kindle 2 would live in my hands and heart forever. I would be forever grateful if you feel I am worthy enough to receive such a precious and expensive gift. Thank you for your consideration.
Take care and I hope your summer is great!

Throwing my hat into the ring for the contest.

Why should I win? That is a good question. I can list several reasons for why I would like to win this ebook.

- I am poor and unemployed, and can't swing a new one myself.
- It would make a great gift for my recently widowed mom.
- It would give me motivation to get off my butt and scan in me and my dad's old paperbacks that are out of print. The man loved his westerns.

Yea, I don't have a lot of reasons for it, but mainly it would just make an awesome gift for my mom. She doesn't really have much to do since dad died, and this would at least give her the chance to sit on the front porch and read.
- she can blow my siblings inheritance on ebooks from the kindle webstore, and that will allow me to laugh and laugh and point, while I read the 1tb of ebooks she bought

*(please note, not trying for the sympathy vote but I am being serious, my dad really did die on April 10th. I wouldn't joke about something like that.)

If I do win, then I will let her decide on what model she wants. I think she would want the kindle for the wireless thing, but she is also in MS, and lives too far out to get a paper delivered. That kinda doesn't look good for the coverage map...

Either way, thanks

Why I Deserve to win

I deserve to win because I'm old, on Social Security and a pension, am envious of my daughter's Sony Reader [she won't give me her old one and buy a newer one]. I have arthritis [both osteo and rheumatoid], carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve damage and a bunch of other stuff I don't want to bore you with which makes it difficult for me to hold a big book in my hands. A portable reader would enable me to have a means of carrying a lot of books [I read an average of 5-7 books a week] around with me and it would make it easy to me to have another book to read when I'm finished with the current one!

Thanks for considering me!

I Want to Win a Reader

Enter my name in the giveaaway! A few reasons why I should win the reader:
  • So I can sing "I won a reader, I won a reader"!
  • I live 2 hours away from the Monterey Bay Aquarium (jellyfish avatar)

And the real reason I want to win:
  • My mother will accept the reader if I win it in a contest. She has macular degeneration, and needs a reader with large font sizes. However, she won't let me buy her one ("I don't want you to spend your money on me dear").

Hi, I'd like to win an e-reader myself. The Hanlin V3 would be nice.

Why should I get it? Because I'll put a cool sticker on it saying "MobileRead.com gave me this for free!".

My Entry

So many others have great reasons for wanting to win, and I wish them the best of luck.

The reason that I would like to win a second K2, is I miss being able to easily share books with my boyfriend.

Of course I could pass him my K2 after I finish a book, but that would leave me without a device to read all of the e-books that I have waiting to be read.

I'd like to win an eBook Reader for my husband. He needs to read more so he'll be more sympathetic to my reading.
