I followed the calibre conversion guide, however once I load books onto my iPhone, the epub's don't have a table of contents and the current chapter reads as an "unknown" chapter. Now these read fine on the Mac version of stanza, and in Calibre, just not on the phone version of stanza. Also, this only happens with the ePub format, as my .lit files that I converted using calibre show up fine. Any ideas?

The red text needs to be the IP of your PC on the wifi network. [add a link sometime on how to find this]
On a Windows XP, Vista, or 7 PC just hold down the windows key on the keyboard (between Ctrl and Alt) and then press R. In the little window that comes up type in 'cmd' without the '. You will get a command line interface. Type in ipconfig and press Enter. Look for your IP address. I'm using Windows 7 and my IP address is on the line that says IPv4 address. It will look similar to 192.168.1.5 or 10.0.0.3. That is the IP address for your computer.

Hi there, I'm trying to add my books from calibre onto my ipod touch using Stanza as my ereader. I followed all the steps in the guide but when I get to the part where I put in my ip address, Stanza wants me to authenticate myself. I have no idea what it is asking for, it wants a user name and a password. Could someone help out a complete tech retard? Thank you

Are you sure you got the address and port correctly ? Maybe you typed another port number, for the correct IP address, and you come to another server (http or other)

Thanks for all the tips in this thread. I've only recently started using Calibre, but find it an enormous help. I currently have about 2500 books catalogued in it, maybe half in epub format. (Some are entries created solely to record dead-tree books, so I can keep track of which titles I have in ebook and which in hard-copy, especially in the same series or by the same author.)

Unfortunately, I can't get Stanza to connect to the Calibre server. Details:

OSX 10.6.3 latest (Intel), OSX firewall off
Calibre latest, Calibre server running, no password
Stanza latest, on iPhone 3G latest OS

I'm connected via our home wireless network. Stanza can immediately see any books I open in Stanza Desktop, but it can't see my Calibre library. I have created a new Shared catalog (http://my.I.P.address:8080/) but when I press on this, I get "cannot connect to host". I've tried rebooting the Calibre server, with no change.

Thankyou for any help you can offer.

[QUOTE=Unfortunately, I can't get Stanza to connect to the Calibre server.[/QUOTE]

I just tested mine and now it doesn't work either It was working a couple days ago. Maybe it is version 0.7.1 I installed recently.

The first thing to do is verify that the Calibre web server is running. On the content server window where you start your web server, there is a 'test server' button. Press that and see if your web browser shows your catalog. If the ip address it uses is 127.0.01, change that to your real ip or host name and verify again.

If that works, then you know your content server is working. What I ended up doing was manually adding a book source in Stanza. For the url use
Code:
http://my.ip.address:8080/stanza
Change 8080 to whatever port your Calibre content server is on. I also left the username as Calibre and blank password

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I had tested the server. My web browser shows my catalog instantly.

Originally, I set a password, and that worked perfectly between my web browser and Calibre. However, after not being able to see Calibre in Stanza, I removed the username and password. It hadn't occurred to me at that point to keep the username "calibre". So I just replaced it and restarted the content server.

Sure enough, "Books in calibre" suddenly appeared in Stanza on my iPhone! Thanks for that reminder.

However, pressing on the "Books in calibre" item still results in "Catalog Error Can't connect to host.

As I said, Stanza has no problem seeing books open in Stanza desktop on my laptop, so evidently the wifi connection is working. But something is still going wrong between Stanza and Calibre.

Are you getting the same error message as I am?

Thanks for your help and advice.

Yes, while it used to work for me last week, now when I choose "books on Calibre" it fails.

However, I created a Book Source myself as mentioned above and that works perfectly. I suggest you try that.

I thought maybe I'd comment on how I used to read books on my iPod Touch - I only used the Kindle App, and sent mobi format books into the app's directory when I SSH'd into it.

I didn't read many ebooks then.
