I narrowed my selection down to the Sony reader or the Kindle.

I do like the looks of the Sony readers, but after comparing books available at the Sony bookstore to what is available at the Kindle store, Kindle wins hands down. More books available and at a lower price.

And since Kindle is from Amazon, I would expect that more books would be released for the Kindle than any other reader.

Anyways, thanks for everyone's posts.... they did help me make my decision.
Kindle's biggest plus in my estimation isn't whispernet. I live in a rural area and coverage here is spotty to be kind.

The biggie in their favor is the keyboard to simplify note taking.

I went with the Sony for price, aesthetics, and I could get one almost locally - but the kindle is a good choice.

For me it's the bookstore. I've only purchased 2 books via whispernet since receiving the Kindle on October 30th of last year. I do use it to send my purchases to my Kindle, basically I use the computer to shop at Amazon and send my purchases to my Kindle and turn the whispernet for download. I love that part; no need to connect your reader via usb to receive your purchase books!

I agree that it isn't the biggest plus.... Although whispernet is a pretty dang good idea.

For me it is the availability and cost of books. I mean... that is what this thing is for after all.

And you have looked at the thousands of books freely available here, right?

Beautifully formatted by our own members!

THATS the Kindle Killer feature!
The whole reason that the whisper net is an advantage for me is that I don't want to have to take my PC with me to get new source material.

Mobi books arent formatted as heavily as LRF files, so if i had a kindle i would probably check them out

LRF files are very strict in the formatting department, and i prefer my own options, not JSwolf's opinion on formatting
so i make my own!

It is a pitty the Kindle 2 isn't available yet in Spain! Please give us more feedback on it once you try its functionalities

Well there we go. 16 shades of grey, up from 4. 25% better battery life, 20% faster screen refresh, TTS, super thin, charges via USB AND via AC (comes with both cables). I just ordered 2 - one for me and one for the wife.

Comes with one USB cable that works with the included USB AC charger or to connect to a USB port. The EZ Reader has the same setup, which saves a cable.

Yeah what's what I meant. Much better setup. Like an iPhone this way.

Can't you still download from the internet?

I guess that would be a question... can you get content via the internet from a public access point? Library, airport, I/net cafe?

Pardon my butting in, but I love having Whispernet delivery. Yes, when I travel outside the country I don't have it. I can live with that. I spend most of my time in the US so not having it while out of the country isn't a big deal. Besides, at that point the level of convenience is merely reduced to that of the other readers on the market.
