No thanks. I do use Firefox occasionally, but I prefer Chromium-based browsers. Not regular Chrome, anymore, since their new atrocious UI with huge spacing. Mostly it's been Slimjet and Thorium. Both also support uBlock, which Chrome no longer does.

Yes, that book. I was confused by the presense of many ids like p1, p2, etc. Sorry for jumping to a conclusion.

And you could well be correct, especially if their process does not yet include any image conversion, resizing or additional compression yet. Maybe they had to cut corners to meet the January 20 date.

But the azw3 is 10 MB and the azw6 is only 4 MB. I copied the bare azw3 to a kindle and it had all the cover and author images and none of the title page images, copyright page images, scene separators, etc. amazon are masters of ambiguity, but it still looks to me like covers and authors images are exempt from azw6 hell, but still can't say whether this maps to what they do or intend to with actual illustrations for EPUBs. Either way, I suspect you are correct that what you get from them in EPUBs is going to change.

I was wrong. I was lazy and had used the XRAY images to step through the images. Paging through the azw3 shows all the images, so who knows what is in the 4 MB azw6.

I also ran kindleunpack on the azw3 and found no markup for page numbers.

When I ran kindleunpack on the azw3 and apnx, the page-map.xml had stuff like:

Amazon delivers different image quality based on the device/app and version used. In my case I downloaded the AZW3/AZW6 pair using a version of Kindle for PC with KFX format blocked in order to receive the best possible image quality available in those formats. The sizes I received are different from what you are seeing, 8 MB and 71 MB respectively.

The AZW3 matches the file I receive when downloading to a 4th generation Kindle. It contains a full set of low resolution color images.

The AZW6 has high resolution replacements for 58 of those images. They are almost as good as the images found in the EPUB download.

Thanks! So K4 avoids azw6 while PW3 on an early firmware gets a bit larger/better images in the azw3? (For kindle books, not EPUBs, which don't involve kindles.)

There are some differences in what gets delivered to various Kindle models, but I don't know all of the specifics.

Safari on Mac does not do that. I get ePub download. I think it is dependent on browser, not the OS.
