Hi there, trying to figure out what to do about my Paperwhite 10 not being able to get past the "Kindle store encountered an unexpected error" issue. I used 7Zip to open the exploit files, copied those via Windows 11 to my Paperwhite 10's root directory, continued following steps, and got the above error when I tried loading the Kindle Store. Factory reset, tried again using troubleshooting steps, same error message when I load the Kindle Store. Unsure what else I can check/do? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a Kindle PaperWhite 10th Generation (PW4) and i've tried the latest WinterBreak. When I enter the store, it says "Unexpected error" or other messages like that. I have followed all the steps, I tried the trobleshooting method, I tried putting the Kindle in multiple regions, I reset it like five times in one day. I have tried everything possible and even impossible. Please, if anyone knows how to solve it, I need help. (sorry if my English is not good) |

Just confirmed, that new build from notmarek does work on my PW4. It's a different compile, with many of the binaries differing, despite being based on the same commit (according to the filename). I guess I'm pretty much good now. Thank you!
Still curious whether there would be any advantages to downgrading my FW to a non-hf version. All things being equal, an hf-targeted FW should be faster, but of course it depends on what else they added at the same time and other factors. I'm happy enough on this firmware now though. Thanks again! |

Im Currently on a Kindle Scribe, and have successfully gotten the jailbreak to work. But the issue i am having at the moment is that when it ask me to install the hotfix, I try to transfer the file over to the device, assuming the file does transfer over since I don't actually see the file in the directory. I try to update the Kindle from the settings while OTA is off, I get nothing in terms of it working nor does ;log mrpi work. So am i doing something wrong, or is it still just a bug for kindle scribes. I haven't heard much luck in terms with he Scribes in here.
I have also Factory Reset the device, updated the device. I'm just stuck. |

Do you have OTARenamer installed? If so, did you use it's restore option before attempting the hotfix? |

Have you tried restarting your Scribe from Settings => Device Options => Restart after copying the hotfix .bin file to the root of the exposed storage? I seem to remember someone mentioning that they had to restart to get the hotfix installed since it did not show as an update being available but it did install on a restart.

Hi friends,
I previously successfully jailed break the device then install the KUAL and disable OTA, but KOREADER did not start so I tried again and again. I tried to factory reset, then with Amazon store I can jail break it again but I am stuck with step Copy Update_hotfix_universal.bin now, I cannot update the hot fix anymore as it always say I am at the latest firmware version (maybe a factory Please advice me if you have information. Thank you so much. Note: I'm using Kindle Paperwhite 5 (Kids version) 5.17.1.0.3 |

@carp, your situation is exactly like mine, just with a different process (yours involves the "scanner", mine involved the "KFXReader").
Don't do something you will regret, like me. DO NOT factory reset your Kindle. Last edited by tekkasit; 01-06-2025 at 04:13 AM. |

Option B: So what you might have better luck doing is downloading the latest KUAL (Coplate), Extract only the Update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_*_install.bin and put it into your main directory like you do for the regular hotfix. and make sure you delete the hotfix that originally have on there. Disconnect and Eject the kindle, and run the update again. you should have the KUAL (book) iinstalled |
