I just found another thing I don't quite like on this update.

When you remove a book directly from your homepage, the book/thumbnail stays there and won't go away.

That list shows books that may or may not be downloaded on your Kindle, e.g. it will show recent purchases. A checkbox icon indicates if it is downloaded or not. Exactly what you would see in Library if you were to clear the Downloaded filter. So it is the expected presentation.

It didn't behave like that before this update. When I removed books directly from my homepage they would also disappear on my homepage.

It’s also the way it works in the Kindle apps for iOS and Android/Fire. So assuming that it was as you say (it isn’t something I would remember, as I almost never visit Home), it’s now been ‘fixed’ to match that behavior.

I'm as happy as a pig eatin' slop with this new firmware version. It does everything I want.

My Oasis 3 (2019) works great. I have no problems at all.

I like it too, though I wish you could use collections for side-loaded books.

Amazon needs to stop doing this 'fixes'

I have side-loaded books in collections. I make my collections online, then just manually put my side-loaded books in those collections on my Kindle.

My Oasis has become too annoying to use since this update. It doesn’t help that I’m obsessed with having all my books downloaded to the device but many of them are showing up multiple times when I sort by title. It’s become very slow when it never was before. I’ve tried using Content and Devices to fix it and so far nothing has helped, and I’ve restarted it countless times. I do have a Paperwhite with sideloaded books so until there’s a way to fix this (besides resetting) it’s either the Paperwhite or mini iPad for reading.

After most updates, Kindle will re-index all of the content on it.

It is possible your Oasis is busy re-indexing (or failing to index a corrupted book), and this would cause slowness. Restart will not help with this.

To check this, search for ‘.’ (Or any punctuation character). This should return no results, but if it is indexing, the Text in Books item will be enabled, and if you tap on that, there will be an item called Items Not Yet Indexed. Open that, and it will it will list the books not yet indexed.

If one or more of these books is corrupt, then indexing will not complete, and it will continue to contribute to slow performance and battery drain. Removing all of the books listed will terminate the indexing activity and you can then try re-downloading them.

And if this was an issue, perhaps it will help with books showing multiple times as well (maybe try another Restart after clearing up the re-indexing issue).

What were you ‘using content and devices’ for? Sending, or Deleting?

Thanks for your suggestions. There are no items being indexed so that isn’t the issue. I was using Content and Devices to send a few of the problem books to the device after deleting the downloads on the Oasis. I even tried taking an old Kindle and setting it up on my account and found the same issues with books appearing two or three times (only one being marked as downloaded, when I delete the download that entry goes away but when I download again from the “second” entry it creates another one). For now I’m just hoping it will sort itself out eventually.

Pretty odd. The fact that it shows the same on 2 devices argues against Reset being any sort of solution. Do you have the Kindle app on an iOS or Android device that you can compare with?

Yes, I have an iPad mini with the Kindle app and my library is perfectly fine. I don’t download many books there as I use it for things like manuals and cookbooks rather than fiction but I did experiment with it and there are no duplicates or triplicates to be seen.

Early yet but reset seems to have done the trick! Five hundred books downloaded and not a duplicate in sight, fingers crossed it stays this way.

It screws up collections for books from amazon!. Can only get a sort of List view on Collections by sacrificing books that aren't in collections. If you go to Collections as a sort.. you get only a Grid/Icon view.. no list view! and all the books/docs not in collections, shows up in a collections titled.. Noncollection or Uncollections. Now if THAT collection was available in the List view option.. it would be solved
