The latest Tor E-Book Club offering is New Spring: The Novel by Robert Jordan. This is Jordan's prequel to the massive Wheel of Time series. Tor's offering it for two reasons: 1) The Wheel of Time TV series has gone into production (I believe shooting has begun) and 2) Tor is publishing a "lost novel" of Jordan's, Warrior of the Altaii, next month.

I'm really happy for this. New Spring was the only part of The Wheel of Time I didn't have in e-book. Getting it for free is awesome.

BTW, New Spring is a prequel and was published between books 10 and 11. If you really want to read it before that point and haven't read the series before, at least wait till after book 5. It is spoilerish for some things up to that point.

IMO this is true most of the time with prequels written for ongoing series. I'm sure it's not true for all of them, but in the series I've read that included a sequel later in the series, I tend to think there's stuff included that had been slowly released in the early books in the series. I usually suggest first time readers to read series based on release dates. You can always go back and read in chronological order later.

The fun thing here is that Tor also put out the first book in the series, Every Heart a Doorway, in the ebook club a couple of years ago. So now I have the first two for free! :-D
