What's the difference between OCLC and OCLC-OWI?

I noticed that LC sometimes put DOIs in the OCLC-OWI field. Is that normal?

I selected a few books and used "Convert ISBN-10 to ISBN-13 [Selected Books]." Instead, it converted the ISBN-10s for every book in my library.

Not really a problem as I was going to do them anyways, but did I misunderstand the "Selected Books" thing?

I've been absolutely LOVING this plugin and have been using it for years! I'm a crazy pants for metadata, and I'm loving that this plugin is able to pull up the data directly from the OCLC Classify website. Very very helpful.

That said, something bizarre has started happening on basically every book that I've added for the last few months. I get this kind of error:

I'm running the latest version of the plugin as well. Any ideas what would be causing this?

Without a full Calibre debug log showing your problem reproduced, I don't know that LC is responsible for this. Calibre > Preferences Down Arrow > Restart in Debug Mode, then recreate this error a couple of times, then exit Calibre. The text file for the log will appear. Post it.


Added: The "[Title] - [Author]" in your posts interests me. Nowhere does that literal appear anywhere in any of my plugins. What were you doing exactly when you got the error? Your debug log may or may not show what you were doing if LC were not the cause.

BTW, it looks like you are using a plugin that is not working any longer: "bbcgf_ebook". I've never heard of that plugin, but you might want to uninstall it or update it so it works in Calibre 4.16.

I didn't crop any of it, literally full copy/paste. Is there a setting for the debug verbosity I'm missing? Happy to resend.

Ha! Found it, it's the BBC GoodFood Recipe Reader - haven't used it in AGES, forgot I had it. Thanks for the heads up!

Something very bizarre. The debug log is not capturing the error.

Does this have something to do with my custom columns? I haven't changed anything since I installed the LC plugin, but I'd be happy to follow instructions that would potentially fix this.

I would also like to note, that when I have "Update 'Genre' using LCC-to-Genre Mappings?" toggled on (and the DDC one off) it doesn't update the mapping at all, and I've imported the CSV for the mapping multiple times.

Additionally, the "Always Create OCLC-OWI as an 'Identifier' (à la ISBN)?" is checked off, but it doesn't actually behave like the ISBN at all. When I click on that value, it just filters my Calibre library for that value, which is always just that one entry, instead of loading up the site.

I'm wondering if, despite my plugin being updated every time, that maybe some vestiges of old settings are preventing this from working properly. Would removing the plugin, then installing it again perhaps fix this or will it screw up all the custom metadata values I've already accumulated over the years?

Preferences > Plugins > Disable Plugins > Disable Library Codes. Restart Calibre in DEBUG mode. Then, recreate the errors that you have seen for almost all books. Post your debug log.

If the errors disappear, meaning LC is responsible, does this happen even long after you have added the books, have restarted Calibre afterwards, and then used LC?

If the errors do not disappear, then disable ALL Plugins, restart Calibre, and try again. Does it still appear? If so, create and post a debug log.

In lieu of disabling all plugins, you can run a .bat file with:
"C:\Program Files\Calibre2\calibre.exe" --ignore-plugins

Much easier than disabling ALL Plugins at once.

Sorry, you lost me. If I'm disabling LC, then restart in debug, with LC disabled, how am I to recreate these errors? This only happens when I click on the LC button to download the LCC, DCC, FAST, OCLC_ID, etc and fill in to the custom columns. This used to work just fine, but now I get those weird attribute errors. The only thing that seemed suspicious is that one of the URLs it uses results in a 404....something with worldcat, I think.
