Successfully updated my DXG to 3.4.2 following this guide with swap workaround.
The only busybox was patched locally at step 3.4 -> 3.4.2. Valid md5sums was invalidated by update script. It can be subjective or i have done something wrong, but here is my speed test: 3.3 > 3.4 >= 3.2.1 > 2.5.8 Last edited by microtic; 01-05-2016 at 04:16 AM. |

Hello everybody, my first post here
I use Kindle DXG. I'm not familiar with linux and unix environment. I use Cygwin and Windows Cmd and other relevant tools. I applied the procedures as newman explained. I could updated my Kindle DXG to version 3.3 from 3.2.1. Thank you newman! But when I try to get update_kindle_3.4_B00A-my-log.bin file for 3.4, I am getting following error; "C:\cygwin64\home\kindle341>kindle_update_tool .py m --dxg --sign kindle_3.4_B00A-my-log 611680021-1725970040.sh 999999999-reboot.sh rootfs_md5_list.tar.gz update-adds.tar.gz update-kernel.tar.gz update-patches.tar.gz calculating signature for 611680021-1725970040.sh cmd = openssl dgst -sha256 -sign c:\users\sat~1\appdata\local\temp\tmptf6m4q -out c:\users\sat~1\appdata\local\temp\tmpezodly 611680021-1725970040.sh Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\cygwin64\home\kindle341\kindle_update_tool.py" , line 439, in <module> make_bin("update_"+name, filelist, type, kver, sign=sign, jailbreak=jailbreak) File "C:\cygwin64\home\kindle341\kindle_update_tool.py" , line 222, in make_bin create_sig(keyfile, name, tar) File "C:\cygwin64\home\kindle341\kindle_update_tool.py" , line 165, in create_sig raise ValueError("Openssl failed") ValueError: Openssl failed" Can you help me please, I googled the error but couldn't find a relevant answer. I will be thankful for your help. |

You will have to use one of the other Windows builds. |

What is wrong with the released Cygwin build?
Okay, there are changes in HEAD for speed, and for newer devices. Not *critical* for a DXG. Still newer (and thus cooler) than the old python packager. |

mesuthaznedar: Apart from using KindleTool instead of kindle_update_tool you may want to update your instance of Cygwin (especially openssl and it's python glue) to latest packages, or use some live Linux distro from CD/USB and trykindle_update_tool there.

If you have problems with the Cygwin Kindletool, let us know, it may not have gotten the fix for that numeric handling bug. |

IIRC, that only affected the old python packager.
It was just the pre-KindleTool packages that needed to be rebuilt. |

Hello, I've managed to extract update_kindle_3.4_B00A-my-log.bin file at last. The problem probably resolved after installing missing ibraries and development tools to Cygwin/bin. Thank you again...

@knc1: Yup, @eschwartz's right, the UINT32_MAX issue only affected the old python packager

Help: Kindle DX 3.3→3.4 Upgrade
Hello everybody,
I have a Kindle DXG 3G and I was able to upgrade it from 2.5.8 to 3.2.1 by YifanLu's method and to v. 3.3 by newman's method. But at the point of "3.3→3.4 Upgrade" I'm having some difficulty of going ahead. I am stuck after getting my-upgrade.out and my-upgrade.err. files. I couldn't understand the explanations beyond that step because of I'm a newbie at linux and relating stuff. All I need it that famous TLS support. ![]() Could anybody help me at overcoming this. I will be thankful for it. ![]() Regards. |

While waiting for help here, you might PM newman to join in on this thread. - - - - There have been 42 models of the grayscale Kindle. https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers I have to admit I can't remember how to fix any possible problem on all of them. ![]() Last edited by knc1; 01-25-2016 at 10:26 AM. |

I figure newman is more likely to see if the threads are merged together.
Asking for help with a specific tutorial is best achieved in the thread for that tutorial. ![]() |
