Eye Floaters
Boy, this group can really get their money's worth out of any topic!!
Here's a new one. Anyone out there have Eye Floaters. My floaters are so bad I have trouble focusing on words because the floaters wander by. That one of the main reason's I'm transitioning to audio books. I've had floater's all my life, but they do increase over time. I think from high blood pressure which I had for a long time. However, just to show the fallability of doctors, I had an optomistrist/opthamalogist (I don't remember which one I saw that day) tell me that there was NO SUCH THING AS FLOATERS. Needless to say, I didn't go back to him. FYI, if any of you do have severe floaters, there is one doctor who is experimenting with a laser treatment to "burn up" the floaters. I've been tempted. What say you crazy guys and gals................. |

I've had floaters since high school. I woke up one day and noticed them. The eye doctor said that there was nothing that really worked, a lot of quack cures but none real. Over the years they stayed about the same -- a little worse in times of stress and a little better every now and then. If anything, on the whole they seem to be less than they were 40 years ago. Then again, maybe I've gotten better at ignoring them and seeing around them.

I have them to an extreme degree, particularly in the right eye. One is persistent, a huge diffuse mass I call the "great fuzzy spot". They are horrible and no doubt the cause of some of my worst headaches.

I've always thought of one particular floater I've had for decades, which has a curious shape, as the most secret of secrets that one could have. Something like a password that I would never have to worry about losing or forgetting or having someone else find out about. Okay, it's a bit weird, I'll admit.

I want mine gone. I'd do that laser surgery.

What I thought was a floater, I found out many years later, was actually an "aura" that come before my migraines. It was (is) sort of a crescent shape with lines in it that vibrate. I later saw a picture of it in a science mag ... and thought the article was going to be one floaters ... then read the caption that said it was a very common aura of "classic migraine." In any event ... when I would see that, it was almost impossible to work at my microscope because of my inability to see. Then I thought I was getting a headache from the eye strain. When I found out it was really migraine, a lot of things started to make more sense. The cool thing was, after my major cancer surgery ... and after they removed just a whole host of organs ... the migraines pretty much stopped. I know there's probably no logical connection .... but they still did. I now get maybe one a year ... if that. Still with the same aura. |

I've had minor floaters for years but a couple of years ago, I had a dramatic increase in my right eye and it was changing. Looked like someone had smeared rusty colored paint across my vision. Went to my eye doctor & discovered that I had a "bleeder". He said that I had done the right thing as I could have permanently lost some or all vision in that eye if I had now had it repaired with laser surgery.
Bottom line, if you see a big increase, have it checked out immediately. |

I have become concerned enough to see an eye specialist twice, who confirmed that I had abnormally high amounts of occlusion/floaters etc. but wasn't at imminent risk of anything. His main concern was that I'd get detached retinas. So, as with many other things, I just "live with it".
Isn't the examination delightful? |

i'm sure you know "good" is certainly not the appropriate adjective in this case, quite the contrary.

Floaters... cellular debris in the fluid of the eye. They can appear as black spots, transparent wiggly "threads", blurry masses, etc. that appear to cross the field of vision. Most noticeable when you close your eyes in a bright room.
Nearly everyone has them to some degree, and they rarely cause anything more than a mild temporary distraction. Some people, though, have a LOT of them, like me. A continual, moving screen of spots and threads and blotches. I've had them forever. I thought once, when I was kid, that I could write a story about a universe, and the surprise ending was that it was in my eyeball! Then I read a short story about a man who wakes up to find a civilization has sprouted up on his hand... who wrote that, btw? Anyone remember? So, yeah, it's been done. ok, that's what i thought. i never heard them called that. maybe you all spend too much time bouncing around. i get those sometimes (not too noticeably though) and i'm pretty sure they're more noticeable if i'm upside down and then right side up quickly. or if i stand up too quickly maybe. you know, from being shaken up.

Eye Floaters
Like I said, a lot of milage......
For those of you who said you have them bad.... I'm placing the link to that site I mentioned.... http://www.eyefloaters.com/ Disclaimer...I have no relation with this company, I have no knowledge of whether it is a scam or not. I just noticed it in a news artlce one time and looked it up. If anyone does proceed with this, I'd love to hear from you. Alyson Last edited by AJ Starr; 07-03-2008 at 04:10 PM. Hmmm, a new racy euphemism... Harv and Vera. Harv was headed home. Harv needed her real bad. He wanted to make her squeal like on their honeymoon at the Hard Rock, he wanted to shake and sweat like Elvis, he wanted to hump 'til they both saw floaters. He could hardly sit still thinking about it, as he downshifted the rig to make the grade.
