I never bother to read those reviews as those bozos are not eInk reader people, much less experts, just electronics reviewers. They try to review everything electronic but know little about the items. The informal reviews from MR folks are much more valuable IMO.

I have a cream/Ivory based H20, this was my fourth one. First one was yellow with a darker top part, second one (with a gorgeous screen) had a format disc problem so it couldn't be used with a Pc, and number three had a faulty led which created a white strip running up the screen. I'm very happy with number four

Some more data on the PagePress navigation buttons.

They do work on the home screen if you have more than one page.

They do work in the pop-up window that you get when you swipe up on the screen.

They do not work in scrolled windows like search results.

That's what I've noticed so far.

I realize few people play games on their kindles any more, but did anyone notice that apparently NO active content works on the Voyage? The option to show active content isn't even in the list of options when you tap "my items" the way it is on the PW. There were a few games that didn't work on the PW (such as triple town, and some soduku) but most did. Oh well - another reason to hold on to my K3 - especially since my mom loves the games on her K3, so it's not a bad idea to hold onto a spare in case hers breaks.

I'm just surprised because the software (the operating system) seems so very similar between the PW and the V. Maybe it's a problem with the higher resolution.

I received my Voyage 3G w/SO yesterday. I have a good screen. I have looked at it outside, inside, dark room, all light levels, auto on and off. The screen looks great. The fonts appear darker to me than my PW2. I love the page sensors, although I had to adjust to the pressure to medium. I have had some accidental page turns, but I feel like it will take time for me to adjust to it. I was hesitate about the origami cover, but I love it.

With the PW1 Amazon quickly ran out of WiFi only units and so they replaced mine with a 3G unit instead. CS was bending over backwards two years ago to keep us happy. I tried 3 PW1s before giving up though. The screens were just awful to my eyes. BTW, I think I was the first to report the bad screens and got blasted with a lot of hate posting, PMs, and even one email! I was called every name in the book and told I was wrong. But gradually more and more people stood up and reported what I was reporting. Now a days it is common to admit the flaws of the PW1. The PW2 was a better, but still had a lower text sharpness and contrast than the K4 Black model. I sure hope my Voyage is a huge improvement over the PWs else it will be taking a Voyage back to the Mother Ship! It should be delivered today and I will take it on a trip tomorrow and test it out on the road.

You should, actually. I ordered PW1 at the very end, 3 weeks later PW2 appeared. By then they ironed out everything, I had no complaints - no colour blobs, no pinholes, tiny (that being PW1) shadows at the bottom. I read at 12 in pitch dark room and even have slight yellow tint. It has served me well (but I crave new toy!) So chance is you will get a good one too.

I was wondering the same thing. The auto brightness was also unpredictable. Sometimes it works sometimes not. Its defiantly brighter at the bottom than the top and mine has the exact same yellow top third. The sharper screen might make up for it to others. The worst part was waiting a month for a buggy device! Some things don't change! I have enjoyed reading the forums and have to wait to see which ereader is best for me.

They're doing it all over again... Almost makes me happy that we get new models a couple months later here in Canada. The same thing happened with the PW1 and I got a near perfectly lit unit.

But I've read about six hours with it so far and have tended to not notice it too much when reading. The greater contrast and clarity is more what I'm focused on.

A real simple test is to hold up a few fingers horizontally and block out the middle of the screen, leaving only the top and bottom.

I returned about five each of the PW 1 and 2s, the bruised blotchiness was annoying.

This isn't that instant "this is going to drive me crazy" reaction.

So, I don't know, I'm kind of torn. The price and principle is what gets me...

A note to mods: if every single image that people post violates image size guidelines, maybe the guidelines should be changed. In an era of 4K monitors and 400 Mb/s internet available for 30 € a month (in my country), looking at matchbox sized images is not necessary.

I highly doubt it... But I'm no expert at all.
Still, my two cents: It might be something with the light layer. Glue not evenly distributed across the layer, bending the light in funky rainbow colored ways.
Or some other residue still sticking on it, blocking just enough light to cause discolorations.
Or perhaps the thickness of the layer itself varies a bit here and there, guiding the light less optimal over some spots.

Then again, since there are ever so small color temperature differences in LEDS, some of them might be fighting with each other... anyway, nothing that can be fixed with a FW update I'm afraid.

With such a hefty pricetag you're absolutely right to demand an uniform lit display, though! I would be disappointed too.

Regarding those who are considering an H2O: mine is not "paperwhite" at all (in a dimly lit room!), more of a creamy yellow. It has some mild shadows on the bottom but absolutely nothing like the pics I've seen here - it is a very, very good display. Not perfect, but the closest thing to perfect I've seen so far...

The Voyage costs so much more for me than a PW2, its not just the £60 for the device, it's the £40 for the case (I've ordered the origami), then the insurance for three years is another £15 more than the PW2. So it's hard to justify an additional £115 for what won't be my main ereader, my H20 will.

When I ordered it I expected it would blow me away, now, even if I get a decent screen, I don't expect it to. The software hasn't changed at all, it's just a souped up PW so for me if I get a decent PW2 tomorrow I'm just cancelling the Voyage.
