Makes sense that there would be, based on what we have for geo-restrictions when buying. Scribd will have to get deals in place with rights holders in each country and will need at least one or two decent size pubs in each country to make it worthwhile for more users if they want to be an international service.

I signed up for the three month trial today and am actually pleasantly surprised with the selection for the US. Not all that thrilled with the app for reading them though.

I think I might get the Nexus for reading stuff and use my older 8.9 HD as I do now for my lovely hidden object games. Not sure how the Nexus would work with amazon apps as I only buy my stuff there. I have no interest buying anything from the google store. That is why I wish the Fire 7 hdx didn't use that blue lighting stuff as I have seen pictures of it and it would bother me. But overall I am just more of a amazon consumer and the Nexus makes me a bit nervous. I can't use prime videos on it, no idea how well the amazon apps work on it and for me the fire system is just very easy to use. Sigh. I just want something to be easy.

But I will wait a bit first, send the info to Scribd and make do with the original fire for now.
The vast majority of the apps on Amazon's app store will work fine on the Nexus 7. You'll just have to sideload Amazon's app store app (they will E-mail you a link to download it) making even that dead simple to do. I use apps from Amazon's store on my Nook HD+ and my mother's Nexus 7 as well. Works just fine. In fact, I have better luck with some apps showing compatible with my devices from Amazon than from Google Play. (Disney's Where's My Water/Mickey/Perry being a notable example.)

Once you have the tablet linked to your account, the website will show you what devices any individual app is compatible with before you buy too.

I didn't think about the country restrictions, but that is a shame. Those big name authors are all going to have different contracts for the different countries unless the handled their backlist on their own or all rights reverted. And there are only two companies where a backlist author or self-published author can upload right now so even then, it might be hard for such an author to be part of SCIBD. With all the various retailers and companies there are these days it's gets harder and harder to pick and choose which ones to participate with and so on.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Did you have to jailbreak the Nook first? I haven't done that (or bought a dual boot chip) and didn't have any luck getting the appstore on it (then again, I didn't try hard, since I had alternatives).

It's a relatively simple procedure which gives you root access to the Nook HD/HD+. I've done it to all of ours.

I use Moon+ Pro for DRM free epub. I use Overdrive Media Console for Library ADE epubs and I do have Mantano installed but never use it.

With Moon+ Pro I use Calibre Companion to organize my library.

I actually like the Scribd app reader. I use the Sans Serif font. I liked it so much I hunted down the font they use for my reader apps and eInk Kindles.

I am currently reading This Old Shades on Scribd. The selection for me is massive when it comes to Romance books so yes I will keep this subscription and save alot of money.

I'm honestly not sure, as I rooted mine right away. Did some searching, it looks like it's doable with the stock firmware, but quite complicated. It is considerably simpler to just root the device and/or install CyanogenMod on it.

Well, I pulled the trigger on the Nexus 7. The price just dropped to $187 while still being sold by Amazon, not a 3rd party. I know there is talk about a new generation coming out and all that, but I thought this was a good price. I was able to use some of my points I saved up so it hurt a bit less.

I hope I like it and it wont have any issues. Some of the reviews made me a bit nervous and that is just one thing about buying the fire, I would never worry about the warranty. Here I just hope for the best I guess.

I also decided on the Nexus because there are 2 apps not available for the Fires. One is the Tennis Channel everywhere and the other is the ATT uverse app. So maybe its a good thing to have at least one regular android tablet in the house.

I finished another book on Scibd (Vicious Circle. It was okay. Not my favorite, but not bad) and they did do some improvements to the contrast...but I think in order to use Scibd, I need a reader where I can load the app. Reading on my laptop just plain stinks.

I am loving it, so far I have read two in the last few days.
1-Double Take by Laura Kennedy, a YA Smashwords ebook that was ok and quick read at 205 pages. It was about a teenage girl and an elderly movie star who obsessed over her. Lots of mentions of old movie stars and it centered around the Cleopatra dress Elizabeth Taylor wore.

2- The Way Life Should Be Harper Collins, by the author who wrote Orphan Train. I loved that novel and I really liked this one but it ended to abruptly, left a lot of unanswered questions.
I tried to put URL's in but it would not work. Sorry.

Congrats! I haven't had any problems with mine. I've had it @6 months. You can get a square trade warranty on it, that's what I did.

Can't seem to cut text on this tablet, will edit quoted text later. ETA done. No I wasn't using my Nexus at the time. I like my 2012 Fire HD running n2a Kitkat for web browsing.

Thanks.
Its a birthday present to myself. Since I didn't upgrade the PW1 and kept my 2012 fire HD, I still had points build up to use. I still have some left, I didn't use them all. Using part of points makes it like a really good sale.

I looked into square trade, but it would be $50 for 2 years for the price I paid. That is just too much. I just hope for the best. I am sure there is some warranty on it from Asus if needed.

It will be here on Wednesday and I am filling up my library at Scribd. This subscription along with library and already purchased books will keep me from buying anything new for a while. In the long run, it will save money.

Simon & Schuster brought some really nice romances on board to Sribd.

Lots of stuff I have waited on and never came to the library.

That's the beauty of it. They are not library friendly so Scribd will makes up for that. I haven't even looked yet to see the titles.
