I wasn't aware of this -- so thanks! Have just started into the "audio book" world, in hopes that it will get me into walking. It hasn't yet, but it *was* helpful on a 750 mile drive across country.

Amazon and Best Buy have dropped the price on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 down to $279.99. This is the lowest price I've seen since its launch.

I don't have any tablet deals to report, but I felt you'd be thrilled to ken that I just misread the thread title as Current Deaths. "Man Keels over after Receiving Discount on MacBook Air."

That's what I was thinking, monkey! And, if anyone gets one from today's sale, please report back and let us know what size memory is in it. I am wondering if any of these will ship with 4gb.

Staples this week also has the Nexus 7 16GB for $179. Not the lowest price I've seen, however.

I haven't seen any references to Goodwill's auction site as a source for tablets, ereaders, and Ipods/MP3 players, and I've found it useful, so I'm posting now.

There are several things to bear in mind.

These are items that are donated to Goodwill thrift stores across the country. On the upside, they can be items in good shape that a person doesn't need anymore, new items a person didn't want, or even few overstocks from a vendor. On the downside, they could be unwanted because they're nearly worn out or even abused.

It's an auction site -- prices are generally cheap, but all items are sold "as is" so there are no returns and you pay shipping. The sellers generally do not do any testing beyond powering it up. You can email sellers about items before bidding if you have questions.

Some of the Goodwill sellers will sell/ship to Canada, but most are US only.

If you're interested the main site is: http://www.shopgoodwill.com/

Ereaders and MP3 players are under "Personal electronics." Tablets are under "Computers."

A few weeks ago I got an older Kobo for $10, plus $8 shipping and handling. It seems to be in very good shape, it holds a charge well, and the screen is clean and clear. Bottom line: I'm happy.

As always, your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the info

I'd like to add another word of caution:
  • be aware of stolen tablets and ereaders that get blacklisted by the maker
