It doesn't mean they don't exist, and it doesn't mean they do exist. It also doesn't mean he hasn't lost substantial amounts, hasn't lost anything, or even had a net gain.

In other words, it doesn't mean anything at all...

What in the world is a "copyright-infringing file"? Copyright infringement is about the act of doing something with the file, not the file itself. The MPAA has no way of knowing whether an individual copy of a file was ever involved in copyright infringement.

I'd bet that in the majority of cases, the reader doesn't really care one way or the other.

Do you have any evidence to support that claim?

You're not one of those people that actually believe the RIAA propaganda, are you? Is that what you're really using as the basis for your arguments?

The bad economy doesn't have anything to do with entertainment revenues being down, oh, no. it can't! and changing tastes don't have much to do with it either, of course. I haven't bought much new music since the 1990s because I have all the classical I want, and pop music doesn't appeal to me much. And my kids don't have much money to spend on music or entertainment, so they listen to radio and replay their games a lot. but of course none of that relates to why entertainment industry profits are down.

Libraries certainly create new copies when they "loan" an ebook. However, "creating copies" is just a technicality.

Whether or not a copy was created, the end result is the same. Someone experienced the work without paying the artist.

Can they advertise on MegaUpload? How about Dropbox or Rapidshare? How about Amazon's or Google's Cloud service?

I'm more surprised nobody's tried hosting pirate websites using botnet computers- which can be run at minimal cost to yourself. The child porn types are already doing it, so why not everyone else?

Especially because if case law hasn't changed, the owner of the computer is responsible for it hosting pirated goods, not the operator of the botnet.

TEH603, I'm ignorant, and I don't want to remain so. What is a botnet computer?
