Remember that movie Showgirls that attracted all the Protesters and Picketers?
I can see that happening. |

I read BDSM romances sometimes if the story is good (or supposed to be) but the BDSM part I generally just tolerate. Kushiel's Dart is a good example of a BDSM kind of story that had (to me) general appeal because it was just a good *story*.

I know I said I wasn't interested in this book but in a moment of insanity I checked out the audiobook. I'm currently listening to this to see what the fuss is about. If I had checked out the ebook I would of returned it by now but the narrator is very captivating. It's definitely YA language with 18+ content. This isn't written for serious adults. It's definitely not your typical erotic novel seeing they are suppose to be written for adults.
I still don't see what all the hype is about? ![]() |

I found book Kushiel's Dart to be slow and little going on. I got to chapter 15 and had to just give it up.

But I figure it should have held enough interest to keep going by then. It didn't. I do agree that they are not for everyone. I can see how some would like them even though I didn't.

The first book. I prefer the movies. I found the book horrible written although I'm a fan of vampires. I guess if I was reading this as fanfiction I can see some similarity.
I find I'm already losing interest in it after the first sex scene. I find it all very cheesey. Maybe if I was less jaded from other books I've read I might find it shocking. I realize it's sort of a comming of age story. This is written for the younger crowd not for someone my age. |

It did start out kind of slow, but then it turned from political intrigue to a pretty engrossing adventure story.

I decided to read this book because of the hype, too. (I read Hunger Games this month for the same reason!) With all I'd heard, I expected a redo of 'Last Tango in Paris'.
I, also, see it as a coming of age story or the loss of innocence. I mean, what girl hasn't met the 'perfect' guy...., except for that one, little flaw. And what girl didn't convince herself she could change him, and he would do it 'for her'. Of course, although he hides it or disguises it during the 'courtship', it comes back eventually and that little flaw becomes the elephant in the room of the relationship. The main difference with this book is the guy's 'perfection' and 'flaw' are both blown out of proportion. I was actually surprised the BDSM was milder than I thought it would be, considering the hype. And, sure, there was plenty of sex, but lots of romance novels have much more. There was some witty dialog and the story kept a good pace with no long, drawn out deliberations that drive me crazy. I'll probably read the next two Fifty Shades, since the story is obviously not over. The 2nd book in the Hunger Games was good, but the third was a little weird. I'll have to see how this one goes. And I will have to laugh the first time I hear someone use "fifty shades" of anything in a conversation! ![]() |

![]() The thing is as a Romance reader and sometimes Erotica I don't know how to categorize this book other then Fiction. One thing I can say it is a very slow moving novel. The story doesn't really start till many chapters into the book. I don't know if I will read the other 2 books because it depends how the first one ends. |

I'm having hard time not seeing him as a vampire. She didn't write out some of the vampiric behavior. The repetitiveness of the Anna's vocabulary is annoying. I can't say I enjoy a novel with these types of lead characters. It's has me interested but it's more draining then anything else. I felt the same way when I read Stormfire by Christine Monson although this no where as disturbing as that novel was.
