I've done that before, but I did it again and it didn't help, I've got to page 21 of little dorritt but it won't save that, I've dowloaded 26 books, all Epub from gutenberg but these last 3 have just messed it up and now not a single one of them will save!

You should do what you think best, but I'm told that the file system used on SD cards makes it a bad idea to store hundreds of files in the root directory.

Saving things in the root directory of any device will slow that device down considerably.

I had a chance to play with a black T1 at Best Buy today.
Pro: The choices of font and size were very nice! Con: Audio layout (I see what Bookworm Girl meant now) RTF no longer supported (I do actually put documents on my 650) Undetermined: I didn't deal with the internet function at all, nor did I use the pinch-n-zoom crop feature, which sounds as though it would be good for books in PDF format. Holding instead of tapping to get a dictionary definition was neutral for me. So, I think it's definitely a good deal, especially at such a competitive price; however, I don't think I'll be replacing my 650 for it anytime soon. There was no stylus provided at the store (no surprise there!), but I'd definitely need to have one handy when reading ... which is where the right case comes in. |

Comparing my T1 display to my 350 display, the 350 display is a bit sharper due to the higher dpi, but the T1 display has visibly better contrast. I don't know if that is because of the different fonts or if it actually has better contrast, but the screen on the T1 is stunning.

L & G,
I phrased that question very badly! I had meant to ask the difference between RTF and Epub displays. I have a 650, so I can't miss what I never had regarding the 350's dpi advantage. I was impressed with the T1's readability today at the store. They have FINALLY solved the Goldilocks issue of small vs. medium! |

I don't know if this is the right thread for posting this question, but I'll give it a go. Sony owners: how useful would you say that the hand writing feature of the Sony readers have been to you? Very useful, or just a nice extra you haven't been using that much?
I'll partly be using my reader for scientific use - reading social science papers - so would be nice to hear from someone who've been using their reader in a similar way ![]() (I'm asking since I'm still undecided about whether I should go for a Sony - a 950 or a t1 - or wait for either the kindle touch or the cybook odyssey. And neither of them have the hand writing feature) |

I upgraded from a 350 and I love mine. The Wifi is extra useful, as I can download my paper (I subscribe online and I get a link to a PDF on my paper's website) without having to plug it in every day.
It's very fast; the interface is so fast actually that I often forget it's e-ink and start using it as if it were a tablet. The browser, being based on the standard Android browser, has great support. In landscape mode, I can play interactive fiction with Parchment. I would have preferred it (or at least the official case) to have a slot to keep a stylus, but it's not too much of a problem as I've started carrying a capacitive stylus (with a rounded metal end that works great on IR touchscreens) for my tablet and phone anyway, so it's not like I need to keep Sony's piece of plastic clipped on somewhere. With it running Android, I can't wait to see what our hardware hacker friends will be able to enable on this. Just thinking of an offline Interactive Fiction player gets me very excited. |

I've replaced my 300 with the T1 four days ago.
I much prefer the T1. It is much lighter to hold, the screen, for me, is the perfect size, page turnings are much faster and I like that I can tailor the font size, etc. to what I like best. I love the gloss finish but as a fussy person regarding finger prints I do see and understand others complaints about it but I can overlook it for the coolness of the finish itself. I just use a microfiber cloth to wipe it clean now and then. I use the new Sony software and find it just ok...nothing to brag about. I'm surprised that a corp as large and "smart" as Sony would have a software package that seems to have been developed by someone just learning how to program...it seems very crude and basic. I've not used the wifi...I use an iphone 4 for such things...and probably won't. I do like the better rendering of a photo but as they are only black and white I don't really care at all. I use it strictly as a reader and use no other features. |
