The closest we have is a statement that the update is likely weeks, but not months, away. That was posted two weeks ago.
Given the fervor with which people have attacked when promised deadlines were not met, I cannot imagine the company would be more specific than that :/ |

Unmet expectations are always a problem. Providing little advance information is one way to manage expectations.
To me, the real question is what comes next, after Froyo. Especially since Honeycomb will likely be on the market within 6 weeks or so. Will we see new hardware? Gonna be interesting. |

Also, before people give Apple as an example, I would say there is no comparison. Apple's products are generally slick devices right from the start while start-ups like Entourage generally have "work in progress" devices which understandably require time to refine and smooth out any rough edges in their software. Steven P... I agree. I have no interest to purchase another device so soon. I haven't even had mine for a month. I love my device don't get me wrong but I would think twice about buying another device that upgrades would not be readily available for.

Surely Entourage does not allow January to end without our (any) update?

I think the key about any new eDGe device is going to be what you want. As I said, we now have working devices, and if thats enough then no one will have to by any new hardware. My question, and I truly dont know the answer, is what kind of hardware will be needed for Honeycomb (Android 3.0), so that if Entourage offers it, will we be able to run it well on the existing hardware? Or, like Windows did to the 8088, will we need "MORE POWER"??????? Some people (certainly including me) always want the latest and greatest software release. To keep up with this, may need new hardware. Everyone is anxiously awaiting Android 2.2, but in fact, other than speed, and the ability to run apps that wont run on 1.6 (although we STILL dont have access to the Android Market because of Google), I think that getting 2.2 will not add a whole lot of functionality.... I just want it because its the newest. Hopefully we will get 2.2 soon, but, by that time, 3.0 will be out on the shelves in the motorola and other devices and then everyone will want that. I'm just not sure what that will entail. |

I also generally agree with StevenP, but new hardware or not, latest software or not, I just want Flash and landscape e-ink.

For anyone confused about these different versions of android and the associated usage statistics, check out this article from Lifehacker... it is very easy to read and understand.

As we have all made a costly investment with our Edges, perhaps we need to cling to the decision with a positive outlook, trying to explore the many functions which we still haven't fully managed and which surely pay back in many senses. I have made the decision to focus on the present, extract every drop of juice and make the most out of my Edge in its current state, learning to use it as best as possible and maximizing every single option and application, rather than putting my expectations in a future, eventual upgrade which will surely expose me to frustration. This is partly for philosophical-psychological reasons, and partly because I refuse to think I have made a wrong investment. Before you marry, you need to see your partner's faults and strong points, emphasizing the faults. But once you've married, it's better to see only the strong points (or life can become a nightmare). (Of course, there is always divorce... ![]() |
