Borders do. While I obviously haven't received my Kobo touch yet I have a few strong indicators that they ship to Australia ;-)

1. During the order process you can select (not type) Australia as the country for delivery
2. A colleague ordered a Kobo wifi a couple of weeks ago from Borders US and received it last week

Oooh, I'm so very tempted. No date has been announced yet for its Australian release, and even when it is, it'll probably be AU$200. I'll wait for reviews and first impressions, but I'd be keen to hear how long it takes for you to receive your Kobo too, dafrizz.

For folks whose Touch's shipped from Chapters-Indigo yesterday, use your UPS number and track the progress of your eReader! Chapters is using the next day delivery (for metropolitan areas) service. My Touch is already in Calgary and I expect to have it in my hot little hands when I get home from work.

Coincident with the Kobo Touch being released, I see that Kindle is now available in Canada at the Source store.

I look forward to a Nook Touch that also runs Kindle's Android App, which would give me a single eInk device that I can use to read books purchased from B&N, Amazon, Borders, Sony, Google, and of course, Kobo.

The Kobo could have been in the running, but Sorry - no Android = No Sale.
They are both good ereaders. Yeah I guess if you want to root it go with the NOOK. But Kobo did not make a screw up. There arent many books that either Nook or Kobo have that the other doesnt. Each of the readers has something to offer the other doesnt. For instance the Kobo works better with pdf's.

I for one can care less about android and an app program. The device doesnt even have sound, so an app that requires sound without sound would be pretty lame. I have seen apps on rooted nook touchs and they dont work very well. Theres nothing that android will give you that will make your reading experience any better that Kobo wouldnt be able to update and make it the same.

I just want to read not play with apps on an ereader.

I dont see it as a screw up at all . Linux, android are completely irrelevent as long as I can read a book on it. No need to hack or root it to read I mean really, afterall it is an ereader, what else would you do with it?

Well, took a bit less than two weeks for the colleague that bought the wifi recently.

My order status currently says "on backorder". Damn it. I'm not known for patience when buying gadgets

I want my touch NOW !

Kobo Touch delivered this morning

UPS delivered my new Kobo Touch late this morning. I haven't had a lot of time to use it yet but so far it is definitely an improvement on the wifi version, faster for sure. I'll post again once I have had a chance to use it a bit more.

Kobo Touch and Newspapers/Magazines

I would really like to hear if the performance with newspaper/magazine subscriptions improves. The wifi 1.9 upgrade seems to have degraded performance in switching between articles and in posting the articles lists. Reading within articles and within books is fine but the lag to switch between articles in newspapers and magazines is problematic.

Thanks for any input.

Does not work with sideloaded epub's !!

Is there a way to sync with the KOBO app in my Ipad ?

I read at work with my KOBO TOUCH but at home i read the same book with the KOBO app in my Ipad.

I tought the sync feature would enable it to be at the same page !
Am I missing something ?

In regard to my previous comments calling Kobo's decision to go with a custom Linux implementation instead of Android a huge screwup; I apologize for my choice of words, I should have simply said that I was personally disappointed by this choice and left it at that.

I agree 100% that, if the new Kobo Touch does what folks need it to do right out of the box, then this shouldn't be much of an issue for them.

The thing is that I already have a Sony PRS-650 that can already match the Kobo pretty much feature for feature (and then do a few things that the Kobo Touch can't like play MP3s), so I was hoping to get a reader with access to the Android Market, because there are some pretty nice apps available.

For example, though I am fairly happy with my Sony when reading PDFs, my Sony's PDF markup capabilities really suck, but RepliGo running in Android on the Nook Color can actually save annotations right back to the PDF so you can then email it to someone for review.

It's true that a lot of the Android apps look bad on the Nook Touch now, because they haven't been adapted for display on an eInk device yet, but Android development is all about tweaking apps to be as portable as possible, so that they can give their users the best possible results across the full spectrum of Android devices, so I would expect this to improve over time.

For what it's worth, although I do think that the Nook Touch has a lot of potential over time (due to it's Android OS), I think that the Kobo has a much nicer set of features right out of the box.

Yes, it is. Download the latest update.

I wasn't planning on picking one up but the sexy minimalist design got the better of me. Can't wait for foot/end notes support on this thing.
