You can all relax about the book download running out of time. I just downloaded all my free books and the website said I had until 8/31 to get them... I have two readers now and I just signed in under my accouint. The site recognized my new reader and let me download 50 dollars worth of free books... AND then let me put the 50 dollrs worth of free books on both readers...

So i guess they extended it a month..

You have until 8/31 to use the credit, not obtain the credit. The credit expired as of midnight on 7/31.

They have a new credit now that just has classics available.

Not too shabby

So I have played with the Reader last night and this morning and I must admit, it is a rather intriguing and enjoyable little device. Other than the initial hiccup with Sony Connect, I haven't had any trouble with it and it is easy to use. I downloaded the new firmware without trouble and have loaded a number of books on it. The only thing I don't like is the placement of the page turning buttons. Being right-handed, I wish they would have swapped placement of the Page button and the Menu button. But I can live with this.

I will admit, it is hard to go back and read on a PDA after reading on E-Ink!

There's a firmware hack available which makes the right-side joystick do page forward/back. See the "Universal Flasher" thread in the "Reader Developer" forum.

I'm *still* unable to sign in to Sony Rewards, and I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with Chase, if not Sony. Sony insists there is nothing they can do to add me into the system and that I have to ask Chase to inform them that the card is active. The operators at Chase keep insisting that the card is just too new to be in Sony's system. One woman yesterday told me that Sony wouldn't learn I had the card until I had a statement balance and had earned rewards! When I told her that I knew that wasn't true she left the line for 5 minutes, supposedly speaking with Sony and came back and told me to wait a few days before trying again. If, in fact, I will be able to login to Sony Rewards in a few days, that's fine. I'm not in *that* big of a hurry. But I'm fairly convinced at this point that there is a bigger problem, since no one else seems to have had this issue, but I can't get anyone at Chase to pay attention to me.

Alas, someday I may join the ranks of Sony Reader users.

That isn't true in my experience at all. My Sony Card, and my dad's were both immdiately usable to create Sony Rewards accounts. Both cards were activated first, but that's all...

I received my card, activated it, and ordered the reader all within one hour. Now, it hasn't shipped yet but that's another story.

UPS man just stopped by and dropped off both of my readers. I ordered them on the 21st, and never got a shipping notification email.

1 day short of the free book promotion . Maybe I can call them up and get them to give it to me anyway?

I signed up for a Connect account, activated my reader, and it gave me the $50 of credit. And I didn't even have to do anything.

Same here. It seems they're extending the deal a day or two. And here I was ready for a fight.

Woo-hoo! My reader just arrived and when I created by Connect account it gave me the $50 credit.

Thanks to the folks who posted the info on the credit card deal, I've been craving one of these since the Librie was announced by couldn't bring myself to spend the money on it.

Edit to add: I ordered it July 20th and it Aug 1st.
