I upgraded from the Kindle Keyboard, so I skipped two entire generations before deciding it was time

I am in love with the PW2. I love being able to read in bed without having the light on. I find I'm reading more just because of how much fun it is to use the device. I got the official Amazon cover and I'm happy with it. This is the perfect e-Reading device, I wonder how they're gonna top this one.

Being able to highlight by just swiping is just awesome. I read a lot of non-fiction and I'm constantly highlighting, and I found the vocabulary builder a great addition. I also liked that if it can't find words it defaults to Wikipedia. Ender's Game was my first read on it and when it went to Wikipedia I could go, huh, so it's a Universe word, not a real word, that's why I don't know what it means

Very happy with the purchase.

thanks for the input guys. I'm now back to wondering what's wrong with the 2 kindles I recieved. I'll be getting the next replacement early next week. What I plan to do is to let it charge overnight using a different charger. If that works, i'll go charge it with my old charger and see what happens.

Worse case is it goes into repair mode again

There are chargers that looks like USB chargers but give 12-15V or so. I thing Asus Tablets have these kind of chargers. make sure you are not using one of those.

PW2 is in the pink case and the PW1 is in the blue case. The top pic is the lights on maximum brightness and the bottom picture is with the lights off. I will take another picture with the lights on but in a dark room.

I DO notice on my new PW2 that I can see the faint outline of what was there before, i.e. ghosting. I'm gonna make sure to bring it up to Amazon before the 30 days are up in case it's not normal and has to be replaced, but the lettering is crisp enough that it's easy for me to ignore the ghosting while reading.

You can set the refresh rate to every page instead of every chapter. I have to have the refresh rate set at every page on all my devices as I can't stand ghosting. Also I'm sure amazon will give you an exchange within the 1 year warranty period. I think after the 30 days is up you can't get a refund but can get an exchange if it is faulty.

Just curious, why would you risk it again?

Personal opinion:

I would recommend against trying the old charger, if the other charger works. You have a very rare-sounding issue and two broken Kindles right after the first charge REALLY suggest to me it is the charger or charging cable that is frying them. I haven't heard anyone else having this issue, so it isn't something common...

If I were you I would get rid of the old charger if a new charger works, or limit the use of the old charger to only those devices you know work with it.

That is common. Just set the page refresh to every page from settings.

Woohoo, just got a replacement today, and it's awesome, the best one I got. Little from perfect but very good. Preparing to return all other Kindles. Thank Amazon.

that's the engineer in me that wants to get to the bottom of the issue. I told the amazon rep that i was willing for them to receive the old kindles and tell me what was wrong before sending me a replacement, but they said they don't get feedback on returned items.

You're probably right. I'll go use a different charger.

BTW, can you post the specs of the "suspect" charger? Brand, model? What numbers/text is printer on it?

It's a Universal socket/travel charger I got off Ebay. No brand that I can see.
