Thanks for clarifying. We can get Purina here, but would be interested in the brand your cat prefers?

The company's name is "Royal Canine" but they make an entire line of Feline foods. Age related, body condition related (the one we are feeding is called 'Renal,' made to care for cats with possible kidney problems.) When we discovered that Felicity did NOT have kidney problems as one Vet told us... (see past rant!) our new Vet told us there was no reason to change her food back, that the 'Renal' version was just lighter in salt. There is a financial consideration though... The Purina kibble was costing about $6 for a 5 kilo bag and the "Royal Canine" costs about $5 for a 2 kilo bag. But a 2 kilo bag lasts a couple of months... no big deal, right? She loves it. It's healthier. I'll spend the extra few dollars for that.

Royal Canin pet foods are very high quality - and can be pricey. They make consumer lines & specialty lines only available from your vet. The kidney diet kept my old cat going for many years. They make dry kibble and wet gravy products.

For dental health, and to help with vomiting/diarrhea problems, dry kibble should be in the diet. Cats don't really need soft foods - they just tend to prefer it if given a choice. I've fed cats all their lives just on kibble.

Ooohh. We can get it in the UK, thanks all. I will now hunt down some outlets. Nothing's too good for our little ones (so my wife tells me...).

That's the way Cain was at the end of his life. We felt so sorry for him. He really made the house a wreak, but we never scolded him, knowing that he felt bad enough and couldn't help himself. We just cleaned up behind him and gave him what comfort we could until the end.

Maggie-dog (11.5yo) has probable bladder cancer, and though not incontinent (yet) she has started to have a couple of accidents in the house, in a puppy way (excitement/desperation). We've even bought a waterproof mattress protector for our bed (I can deal with a doona copping a puddle, but not with a mattress being wrecked and certainly not with keeping her off our bed). But at the moment the cancer seems slowed (she's on permanent Feldene), and bar the occasional bladder infection and blood, seems pretty happy. Mind you, with our house over three storeys and with her arthritic hips, happiness also seems to come from being carried up flights of stairs or helped onto lounges or beds.

And cheeky-bugger Oscar-dog (12.5yo) is learning the trick of being carried too.

Oh, my back...! I wish I could age as gracefully as them.

Cheers,
Marc

We haven't really been through this yet, and know it will be tough. We did have a 15 yo cat a few years ago that got cancer and we had to have put down. He pretty much ignored us anyway. I had a buddy once who I only saw drunk once, and that was when he had to have his dog put down, so I can feel for you guys that have been through it. Oreo's main problem right now is that her arthritic hips seem to be getting worse by the day.

There are doggie diapers for incontinence - they may help provide comfort for all concerned - human & canine. Also, vets are becoming more knowledgeable & more aggressive in pain management - you may have to become a bit forceful to get what she needs.

We are taking her to the vet tomorrow. Hopefully they have suggestions. She is already on Metacam for the arthritis.

I did something to my back at the gym yesterday. It bloody hurts a lot. Now I am going to see if I can get on my treadlie today to run a couple of errands. Or, I can play it up and see if bloke will drive me in the limo! Maybe we can do lunch If I try that, he will probably do the errands himself and leave me at home. hhmmmmm Which action to try!

You're a good man, Marc, and a loving owner. May Maggie-dog's twilight years be as comfortable and as happy as possible.

Blame it on our goofy forebears who got in into their skulls that walking upright was somehow a good idea.

OK... on a 'Stupidity Scale' of 1-10, this has to rate a 12!

Somebody got the bright idea that the manhole covers in the middle of the streets in one of the municipalities around here were beginning to rust... So they ordered them greased.
Did someone forget that a whole lot of little old ladies in Japan ride 50cc motor scooters to do their marketing?
Did someone forget that a quite a large number of teens and early 20's folk ride 125cc and 250 cc motor scooters as their daily commute vehicle?
Did someone forget that I get seriously pissed off when my bike runs sideways down the street?

WHAT THE fU@K WERE THEY THINKING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

For me, none. I don't know how I kept the bike upright, but I slide about 5 meters going sideways. God only knows what happened to others in that area. And when I got back near my house I went to a coin car wash and made sure my tires were free of any remaining grease. I'm still amazed that the powers that should be aware of these possibilities simply aren't!
