I've been doing a rewatch of Law & Order - up to season 18 now - I swear I've seen every actor from Grey's Anatomy - some multiple times over the years - a phenomenon I noted some years back when I did a rewatch of ER -- it's quite fun to recognize a younger face or voice in the midst of the episode

I finished the second season on Wynonna Earp today. I'm going to take a short break from the Earps and watch something else. I got a couple of British shows which are only 4-8 episodes long. Contenders are Coldwater, Rebus, Lynley (both the new shows) or The Sister.

Just watched Ken Burn's new documentary The American Revolution. It was amazing.

I watched it too and loved it.

Last night I watched Crossing Delancey (Amy Irving, Peter Riegert) (1988). I'd seen it in the theater when it came out. It is on the TMC app, which I recently discovered was available to me through my cable subscription. I think it is also available on youtube (free) and rentals on other streaming channels.

I also watched the original Home Alone movie this week.

I watched through Lynley recently and enjoyed it. Can't promise it's better than shows I haven't seen, but I enjoyed the performances of both lead characters, and their chemistry.

I started with Coldwater, so far I've seen the first two and I'm not sure what to think of it. Andrew Lincoln's character is annoying, but Ewen Bremner is very creepy. It's only 6 episodes, so I'll probably finish it.

I loved the original The Inspector Lynley Mysteries. I can remember watching that every week when it was on with a group of fellow international students when I studied in the UK. So the new series' got something to live up to.

Tonight we watched Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. I liked it better than the second one, a lot. That one tried too hard to be funny and clever and it felt that all the actors were trying to one up each other.

We debated whether to watch it tonight or save it for Christmas, but we decided we've got enough to watch during the Christmas days and settled in for a movie night.

I agree - it was better than the previous installment - but I was not impressed - only Glenn Close saved it from landing in my "can't be bothered to finish" list

This morning I read the news of Rob Reiner's death. I'm very sad, because he directed several movies I love. So tonight I'll be watching This is Spinal Tap and tomorrow I'll watch Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

We have been enjoying all of the cast, not only Ted Danson, in A Man on the Inside lately. It's a fun spin on the private eye format, and being a Michael Schur production, it has a good sense of humour while still tackling some difficult subjects at times (and doing so with love and with class).

We started watching Rivals a couple of days ago. It's probably the most HBO series on Disney Plus.

I thought it would be a fun "period drama" (as per IMDB) with David Tennant and Aidan Turner. I hadn't realized it was based on a book series written by Jilly Cooper. Which was made very clear in the first scene of the series. Also it's set in 1986, in my mind that can't be classified as a "period drama".

We are going to finish it, the intrigues are fun and we each take a guess how many bare bottoms we get see each episode.

Actually, Rivals is a period drama. It takes place 49 years ago. A period drama is 30+ years ago.

I saw Fackham Hall yesterday. I can't recommend it. I did laugh, but not nearly enough compared to the number of winces at heavy handed 'jokes' and the acting style.

1986 is 40 years ago. But, yes, I realize it's a period drama, but I was six at the time, so it's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that a period drama can be set during my life time.

In the fourth episode (the latest we watched) they did karaoke and played Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf. So now that's stuck in my head, so I think I put on the live DVD of Meat Loaf I got when cross stitching today.

Out of curiosity, where did you did that definition of a period drama from? I found quite a few definitions such as:
Quote:
a television or film production set in a period in the past, or productions of this type
I did not find one that said there was a minimum of being set 30 years before the current date required. One site listed Catch Me If You Can (2002) or A Beautiful Mind (2001) as period pieces while another listed Uncut Gems (2019) as an example.
