I'm not interested in Kindle their subpar quality I have dealt with in the past has made me never want a Kindle again. I'm hoping Kobo HD Glo is the upgrade from the K3 I've aways wanted.

The Kobo Glo HD is a huge upgrade from the K3 and it is really excellent on the eyes. It also is good for .epub books, converted to .kepub with Calibre. Page turn speed is fast. I also found the battery life to be very good. You'll definitely see a marked difference to the K3.

While the screen is nice to look at the page turns are annoyingly laggy, as is the response time to adjusting fonts or screen brightness (compared to my tablet apps). Last edited by apesmom; 12-08-2015 at 02:03 PM. |

I skipped the PW altogether and jumped from the K3 to the Voyage. I had heard of the uneven lighting, although I have a friend who loves her PW1. I liked the K3, but lamps bother my eyes after a few hours. I have very sensitive eyes apparently. The Voyage really is working great so far (only had it a month or so), and I use the Amazon store all the time. It is just most convenient to access it directly from the ereader. I have put the Glo HD aside for now, but I may use it for .epub books. Might be my imagination, but the Voyage page-turn seems slower for the Calibre converted .epubs. I do not perceive much of a difference between the screen quality or lighting of these two ereaders - although the Voyage lighting adjusts automatically which is kind of cool and works well. Oh, and creating folders for books on the Voyage is easy. This is good as I like to sort by genre and store many books on the reader so I have whatever I am in a mood to read right there. I found the instructions for doing this via Calibre for the Glo HD to be confusing and I was afraid of having to do a hard reset of the device. Again, beware the official Kobo Glo HD cover. It looks nice and has a great feel, but the reset button is covered. I haven't had to use this button so far, and there are a few soft work-arounds listed in the Kobo threads, but I am very cautious in what I do so a reset would not be needed. The device fits snugly in the case and I do would not want to break it trying to get it out. I cannot believe that Kobo actually developed a cover that does not work 100% with the device! ![]() I hope that you find a good source for the Glo HD. |

Tablets have poor battery life for reading I have found out. Every time I get ready to read my battery on whatever tablet needs charging or I get notifications or it tries to update or sync. I want a quality screen with font options and good battery life without distractions.

I think we have talked about how bad the screen was for me and you on the PW1. I actually lost the joy of reading for a while and bought a black K4, just so I could read again. The screen on the PW1 looked like letters in milk to me. I now have a Voyage and I am so so happy. For me it has the screen of the non lighted kindles, but better. But the same way the letters sit on the top, not that milky window look I had with the PW. I never have seen a Kobo, so I have no idea how the screen compares to the Voyage. Just wanted to say that the voyage is not like the PW1. Hope you find a device to make you happy. For me it was the Voyage. Its about perfection for me and my eyes. ![]() |

So those of you who have KPW and Voyage, you're in agreement that the Voyage is far superior?
I have KPW2, and I love it. The only reason I was looking at the KPW3 was the higher resolution [300ppi] and the bigger memory [4gb]. IIRC the KPW3 has the same resolution as the Voyage [?]. The 'only' differences then being the price [big price difference], the 'Adaptive light sensor ' and the 'Page Press' features. Is the memory 4gb on the Voyage or bigger?, see below, yes both 4 gb Oh, big question, is Voyage just as easy to side-load with Calibre as the KPW? I would be hard-pressed to buy a Kobo product again, I had such bad experiences with the first 3 I had. I won't say never but... ![]() And while I enjoyed the convenience of reading on my tablet, I hated the short battery life. So I've generally decided to stick with a Kindle, but now which one? I don't even think the Voyage is available in Canada... ![]() ETA, no, the Voyage is not available in Canada. I wonder why, and why is the price so much more than the KPW when it's basically the same??? ETA2, yes, both 4gb. Just was reading in the Kindle forum about the comparisons, so the glass screen makes the Voyage easier to read on as well. Interesting. Last edited by Blue2u; 12-08-2015 at 08:52 PM. |

Definitely. My screen is evenly lit, no hot spots. good contrast, fast enough on page turns to not be annoying, as some past versions have been (not tried pdf's on it, so those might show lag as other kindles have).

How do I merge two books using Calibre? The book I want to merge is in two parts and I want to make one book. |

Use the epub merge plugin. It's been a long time since I've done it but it was pretty easy to do. You just select both books then click on that plugin to merge them.

Just a reminder that you can still redeem 2000 HQN My Rewards points for a free ebook - that makes it three redemptions for me so far.
