We ate a whole deer one year when I was little with me asking suspiciously at every meal, "Now what is this?", and my mother answering vaguely, "Roast beef" or "Chili" or "Steak" or "Meat loaf." I was determined not to eat any deer meat that year, and by golly I didn't. Or so my mother said. I sure did eat a LOT of roast beef and chili and meat loaf, though. Yes, I was a pretty naive child, since I had clearly seen my daddy bring that deer home from his hunting trip that year and watched him dress it out in the back yard!

Reminds me of the movie "Giant" at thanks giving. Dad said "doesn't Pedro look good" the children's eyes widened and they all burst into tears wouldn't eat.

Reminds me of the meat sticks sold by street vendors in Rota, Spain. I ate a lot of chicken and pork (??? and Gibraltar Monkey) there!

I was woken up at an ungodly hour this morning (8 am on a Saturday) by my neighbors - having their house pressure-washed. Guess they're going to have it painted. The noise of their generator blasted me out of bed and scattered the cats to points unknown.

I get woken up by construction work at 7 every morning, except on Sunday when they blessedly get the day off.
I'm still lucky that the weather is cool at the moment and we can shut the windows but when it'll go back to summer heat, you'll see me cursing and venting a lot in this thread.
I swear I'm seriously developing a twitch whenever I hear chainsaw noise.

You need to move to Japan...
When a neighbor is going to do something that may affect the 'serenity' of the area, he/she goes around door-to-door the day before apologizing for it, usually offering a small wrapped gift (perhaps a dish towel or a small package of laundry soap) to compensate. It's still a bother to be woken up, but at least it lets you know that the neighbors feel badly about it.

Same thing is done when someone moves into a new apartment or new house. Just the opposite of the 'Welcome Wagon!'

A lovely & civilized custom! But this morning, I don't think a dish towel would have been received graciously!

Make that a 12 pack of beer and you won't even have to wrap it.

A bit like my family eating "bruiser steaks" bruiser was the calf(gettin too big) of one of our cows. Before he was killed he had gotten into a stack of onions that were hidden among the pineapple and banana scraps(sent to us by the banana ripeners). We tasted oniony bruiser in all our meals for months. P.s. Bruiser was not a nice beast, which is probably why none of us became attached to him, nor worried too much about eating him.

I just started hearing fireworks and went outside to check them out. From my house, I can usually see 4 major fireworks shows, but I realised that now I can barely see the one that's NW of me, because the palms have grown so tall and full and when I looked East, onto the beach, I realised that my neighbors trees have grown tall and full as well, so I doubt I'll be able to see those anymore. Fortunately, the fourth show, which is the newest, largest and best, is also the closest one to me and I can see that one, clear as day, from my front windows, while sitting on the sofa w/ popcorn.
