Library fee was included in our tuition fee, too. But we never go there. Why? Because it has, like, 5 or 7 shelves with boring, really boring academic books. If it lent interesting books like SciFi, fantasy, romance, thriller... I wouldn't have bought Kindle.

Thanks, Pooh. Now it all fits. The motive was the only thing that was missing.

Good show. I know how it is to put off doing things that are painful. But once you take that first step, you'll feel so much better.

I'm very proud of you. It takes courage to do what you need to do. You will never regret it.

Now you made me cry a little. I'm very proud of you.

It's always a great thing when someone likes their job, especially a new one.

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I don't think I can express my thoughts and feelings better than those who have spoke before me. I will just say my thoughts and good wishes are with you and yours.

I'm on hold with Sales Support for some software. I've been trying to buy it using their on-line site, but the form keeps rejection my addresses. So far I've tried a Florida address but it says Ft. Lauderdale isn't a valid city (I did try Ft. and Fort,) New York City isn't a valid city, and while the form does recognize Kyoto, Japan, it doesn't think my street address is valid...

Maybe I'm really homeless and just don't know it.

Yeah, but she just uses the chat rooms. She's been telling this 4 year old Siamese male that she's 3, with soft fur and a cut nose. I think she sent a picture of the neighbor's kitty so the Siamese won't know she's pushing 9...
She never orders anything as we have spoiled her so badly there is nothing else in the shops she wants!

I'm deeply sorry to hear of your mum's death, Stitchawl. Grief seems to know no pattern as much as we strive for it to and tell ourselves so, set as it is to wash and refract and reflect across each of our uniquely individual personalities. I don't know what else to say, other than to acknowledge the pain and difficulty of it, and that talking helps (as does quiet listening from others).

I lost my father just gone eight years ago. I can't say our family has ever properly dealt with it, all the time playing their parts pretending progress and peace. It reverberates, like a slow-motion passive aggressive explosion in the undercurrents of our "family". I feel now like our family died with our father, and our desire or compulsion or pressure to be closer has pushed us far apart, and to pick at blame for that failure.

be brave, mark it's never easy but am is right; it gets harder when you put it off.

a question to all: how much would you pay for a used book if you were buying online? it's the shipping costs that get me, but i want to know how much used books normally go for.

@wannabee I hope you call her soon. There are probably many more out there too scared to call her and she may be feeling lonely and abandoned.

bloke's dad died a couple of months ago and an aunt last Friday night (funeral tommorrow) both from long terminal illnesses. The thing they both said was it was lovely just to have someone care enough to call or visit.

My Dad died recently (and he lived on a different continent, which complicates things). The demon I now wrestle with is that I never told him what a b*stard he was, and sometimes regret that. On the other hand, would that be a fair thing to do to someone in failing health and increasingly feeble mind (though he was working almost up to the day he died at 82).

All in all, I think it was best to let sleeping dogs lie in this instance, though sometimes I wish I had "shared".

In the UK, you can actually get a lot of used books via Amazon for 1 penny. They claw it back on the postage...

Otherwise, I would expect a reasonable price to be about a quarter of the original, depending on its condition.
