The issues you describe, orklok, are the reasons I generally wait a year before switching to a new o/s. I've no wish to be an "early adapter" when it comes to something as vital as an o/s.

So far my main issues. (core2 duo, 3GHz 8G RAM) W10 Pro

W10 (and it may have been W8) no longer supports my (or any) Brother Networked Scanner (p/o MFC)

I was unsuccessful replacing the Media Center support for my HDTV Stick with NPVR (I can tune & Hear only, the stream spools and will play with VLC, but disappears if I stop.)

Speed is

That's also one of my main reasons for not upgrading. I have an excellent Dell MFD which I use a lot, and very annoyingly Dell never released Windows 8 drivers for it. An example of "designed-in obsolescence", I guess .

I had the same issue with my old Microtek scanner and a Canon printer that I bought in 2000 or 2001 when I upgraded to Windows 7. Neither cost over $150 so wouldn't be earthshaking to replace them, but they still worked perfectly and I refused to give up and have to buy new ones just because of Windows 7 and conflicts between 32 and 64 bit OSs. I finally found some hacks to get both installed and working, none of which came from Microtek or Canon. There was an addon for the printer, and I had to edit the .inf installation files for both a certain way.

Keep searching, you just might find some handy individuals who come up with a solution.

So far I've only got Windows 10 on a new laptop I bought, and I could easily just transfer any documents to one of the desktops and print from those, so I haven't even bothered looking into drivers for the printer or scanner yet and doubt I will. That was a constant fight and nightmare for 3 weeks I don't want to repeat.

What is ODD, is I could move this workgroup grade MFC and connect it by USB.
So what happens to all the other users Brother

BTW, There was even Linux drivers available (but not in a click here 'package'. Took me quite a bit to get it done right)

LOL. It's to be expected.

Webdevelopers who do frontend will know this meta tag:

Code:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge" />
It makes Internet Explorer use its latest and newest rendering capabilities, without regard to compatibility with old code. IE has had an "Edge" mode for quite a long time already.

Yes, I can too, but what is the resolution of the screen? Ripplinger says that Windows won't install if the physical resolution is below 1024x768, i.e. on a 1024x600 netbook.

Just to clarify: My Windows 7 netbook with 1024x600 natural screen resolution did not get the update to reserve a free copy and install Windows 10. I made a registry change which allowed me to force a resolution of 1024x768 (which doesn't look that good when you change natural resolution like that, not something I'd want to be permanently forced to keep), and then the MS update for Windows 10 reservation and installation became available.

I haven't installed it on that 10" netbook, but from everything I've read, it should install just fine. And then hopefully I could go back to 1024x600 resolution without Windows 10 having a fit about it. Going back to the lower resolution is the part I wasn't 100% sure about. And since the netbook doesn't have a touchscreen, I really don't feel any need or reason to upgrade to find out, unless there was a big speed gain from Windows 10.

I installed Windows 10 on a laptop I bought about 10 years ago. It originally had XP as the OS. I had upgraded it to Win 8.1 about a year and a half ago. I just installed Win 10 and everything works beautifully. Even the proprietary engraving software works without any problems.

I had that problem with Win 8 and our Brother MFC I contacted them about it but they were less than helpful. As we had other PCs in the house on Win7 I didn't worry about it and just printed from them instead but if you do find a solution please post it.

Has anyone here used a Sony Reader with win 10 and calibre? I thought I read somewhere that there was a problem with it being recognized which is why I am holding back upgrading

No problem here with an old T1.

In fact on all our machines (PCs and Notebooks, and a wide variety of special and conventional software, and peripherals) not any problem at all, including some quite old ones. All were Win8.1 before.
