PS: IMnotsohumbleO, the Hugos this year are mostly drab and depressing. Sign of the times, I suppose, with the wars and economy and such. But there were a few sparkling gems among the darker stories.
You know.... paper is still available most everywhere.

BTW I read a lot of that p-stuff these days. Not that bad. Reaching fer the button to turn pages is though...

I had something a similar yet completely different thing happening to me yesterday...

I've been busy with the Dune series for so long that I had no idea what to read next! My to-read list will reach the moon if I had them all in p-books, and I still didn't know what to read... I have some new Feists, some Hobbs, Clarks, Asimovs, Mays, McCaffreys, Pratchetts, a few Silverbergs... But where to start!

Hobbs is quickly becoming a new favorite of mine. Enjoy!

Was on vacation involving very very long flights so got a lot read including:

The Southern Vampire Series through to Book 8 (basis for the show True Blood)
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death by Laurie Notaro (great title, interesting but not quite as good a writer as Jen Lancaster although very similar in many respects)
The Grift (quick easy read but nothing special)

Currently reading The Exceptions by Christian Jungerson (apologies for lack of any accents or multiple vowels...don't have it in front of me). Very good book although not going to oust Girl with the Green Dragon Tattoo from my favourites list.

I absolutely loved Idiot Girl, but you say Jen Lancaster is better? Would you please recommend a specific title to me? Thanks!

Her best is "Bitter is the New Black". She also wrote "Bright Lights, Big Ass" and "Such a Pretty Fat". The last one is definitely not her best but still had some laugh out loud moments. The similarities between the two women and their anecdote themes are quite astonishing - both write about their homes, neighbourhoods, pet peeves, long-suffering husbands, weight issues, over the top reactions to things and their dogs and families. I will definitely try some of Laurie Notaro's earlier stuff because I did find her enjoyable just thought her writing could use a little more polish.

(yes, I know I'm in the minority. Yes, I know the importance of LoTR. I still don't like it! It has some good moments, but they - for me - are far outweighed by the bad and the tedious)
Around the time of the new movies I decided to reread the LotR trilogy. My memory at that time (having been about 15 years past) was of enjoying the first book, finding the second book overly descriptive bordering on monotony, and the third book ending the primary story in the same breath as the second book's description of a blade of grass, which then went on to add closure for various characters... However when I reread the series I was pleasantly surprised that my views changed through the years... I am actually in the minority of those that wasn't that impressed (except on technical merit) of the films...

I've actually been thinking of rereading the Hobbit at some point soon...

Just finished "Daughter of the Blood" from Anne Bishop, and started the second one, "Heir to the Shadows".

I've started The Coffin Dancer by Jeffrey Deaver. It is the second book in the Lincoln Rymes series. Very good so far.

I love Gatsby. Probably read it 50 times, could probably read it 50 more, and find something new in it each time. Enjoy!

I just took a chance on buying a new to me author, Annette Blair. The book is "Veiled Deception" and since my library didn't have it, and the subject (the main character owns a vintage clothing shop) was interesting, and Fictionwise had it on sale, I bought it. The other book was Maggie Sefton's "Knit One, Kill Two"; which I had previously checked out of my library and fell in love with and now want to own the whole series. I had credit at Diesel for submitting a Bundle, so I got it for about half off.
