Last evening starting around 6pm bands of storms with heavy rains, extremely high winds, abundant lightning and a tornado just a tad to the west (of where I am.) Quieted down (in my neighborhood) around 9:30 but then exploded again around midnight.

It's been rip-roaring ever since. The light show was extremely impressive on my way to work this morning because of the constant lightning strikes. Thunder is loudly booming, raining in buckets and lots of high wind bursts. There seems to be wave after wave of storm cells just lined up to come through follow-the-leasder style for most of the day.

I heard that 260,000 homes and businesses were without power around the metroplex last night. I think the number is down to 160,000 now. So far I still have power both at home and at work.

Tree limbs are down, roofs ripped off buidlings, roads flooded, strong downburst winds, you name it ...

Rush hour on the roads today should be a real slow-go because of the weather. I fared well getting to work this morning because I'm on the road at dark-thirty (actually at dark o'clock - I start work at dark-thirty.)

Hope RSE is faring well through this. I know he's getting pounded with these storms as well.

I love thunderstorms. With the single exception of the one we had one Sunday morning which woke me up at some unearthly hour (about 6am).

Today it's flitting between overcast and sunny.

Okay, now you've made me feel guilty about liking storms. When I was very young, we had a tornado hit our small town in Illinois. My parents were building a new house at the time and we were living in a basement apartment. We were safe enough in the apartment but all the windows were blown out of the new house and the house across the street from it had it's roof blown off. We were suppossed to move into the new house in a couple of weeks, so in the grand scheme of things, we were very blessed.

Lady Blue, I think we are scheduled to receive your storms today. They are talking about severe thunderstorms again today. We also had some amazing lightening shows a couple of days ago. They looked like spider veins spreading across the clouds. As my kids would say, "It was AWESOME!"

Tornado alley runs from Texas, north to Kansas, so there are always threats of tornados here, especially in Spring and early Summer. But tornados are becoming more frequent and not quite so rare in other parts of the country as well, unfortunately. The threat is always unnerving but I've been extremely fortunate not ever to have been closer than about 10-15 miles from one actually hitting. I hope to remain as fortunate.

Severe storms down here are a pretty routine. And I do LOVE a loud rip-roaring storm, as long as nothing gets damaged or hurt.

Gee, I just heard that White Rock Creek has risen 7 feet over night; the Trinity River is at flood stage at 30 feet and expected to go to 37 feet shortly. Glad I don't live in the vicinity of either one to be directly affected.

Actually, I've got that book and I don't remember it saying any such thing.
