Does it changes color? If yes, it is possible that you have a broken screen. |

Probably easiest to try it with the pinhole reset -- hold the light button down and then trigger a pinhole reset. When/if the LED starts flashing rapidly, let go of the light switch and your Aura HD should be doing a factory reset. When it is completed, you'll need to update the firmware, reload any books on the internal storage, etc. As for returning it to Kobo for an issue with koreader? That one isn't going to fly. Though if it does turn out to have a problem even running Kobo's firmware/renderers, doing a factory reset before sending it back to clean up any evidence is a good idea. The other possibility since an eInk screen is bistable so it needs active changing, is that your screen has failed. If so, you'll still get the disco LED as it does the factory reset but the screen will remain unchanged. |

If the factory reset does not return your Kobo device to full functionality, then it is a problem for Kobo to correct, none of the alternative software has any effect on the device at a level that the factory reset returns the device to.
The AuraHD's screen is connected to the PCB by a flat ribbon cable that is held in place by a zero insertion force connector that is clamped down by a plastic lever. It is possible that the ribbon cable was not properly clamped during assembly, and has worked loose. Luck; Ken |

Thanks for the replies. I haven't tried a factory reset, will try that soon. Don't have a paperclip with me at the moment
![]() I didn't realize that e-ink screens need active changing. I left my Kobo at home on standby during a trip, so now I'm worried maybe the screen is toast. I remember the light by the power button flashing when I tried the pinhole reset. I'll try the factory reset and get back with results, but not feeling very optimistic right now ![]() |

It should recover with an overnight charging. (It will automatically stop drawing current when the battery is charged.) A cracked substrata usually shows by lines appearing on the display. Other failures of the display are very rare. It won't burnout or anything like that. How are you launching KOreader by the way? Luck; Ken |

Didn't know there was more than one way. I just launch it from the main menu in nickel whenever I turn on the reader. Then I tend to just leave it in koreader on standby when I'm not using it.
Planning on charging overnight tonight, hopefully that works |

My personal preference is advboot which runs at startup before much of the Kobo software loads -- no need to stop nickel when it never gets to start though the disadvantage is that you need to restart to switch between koreader and Kobo's renderers. Basically copy the koreader files into place, run the KoboRoot.tgz from this message: Advboot for firmware 3.8.0, let your Kobo restart and enjoy. |

And with slight changes reboot can be done by an fmon icon in nickel, and changing the advboot script of koreader to reboot at exit, I use it like this, and changing readers or copying in USB Mode (possible only in Nickel) is not so painful. (Though in the last 1 month I used only the PDF reader of Nickel...)

Thank you, it is a very good guide, I used it some months ago, but my books are on SD and after exiting koreader SD card disappeared, even remounting it resulted in strange error messages, so reboot was needed anyway. I haven't read that koreader would changed in leaving SD card usable after exit, so I haven't tried start menu since then. (Do you have problems with SD card? My 16 gb. sandisk is very quick, but its detection is very slow, takes several seconds, so start menu would also be nice in this respect, if SD is usable after exit.)

It was as if there is no SD card at all until a reboot. But I should probably give it a try, when I will have time, as since then I have another SD card, which might solve the problem itself.

Soon after WS64 had the suspend screensaver working it was working fine. Then at some point it stopped working and I just get a "Suspended" message. For a little while it would suspend to the cracked.png I added. Then the current book cover was working, for awhile, now all I get is the Suspended Message. For a brief time it worked as I expected, now ...? Somehow in all the updates, this feature got messed up.

@Ken, I can't confirm this, screensaver works as it should on my Mini and my Aura.
Are you sure you use the correct variables? Quote:
Havn't found the time yet, but next step is to integrate a timer somewhere for Kobos to let the device go to sleep after 15 minutes with no user input or something like that. |
