I eat two at a sitting but my wife is very tiny. She's full after eating just one. Of course, loading on the cream cheese, smoked salmon, and a few onion rings and capers, with a pinch of fresh dill really bulks them up!

That is how my hubby eats them. I cannot have smoked salmon right now and I am not a huge fan of it anyway. I tend to go bagel with butter.

OJ, cereal with skim milk, one piece of Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal Walnut Whole wheat bread (aka CROWW). It is good, a bit dense and we need to use the medium instead of the dark setting. I want to add more raisins and walnuts next time as well.

Only a 'bit' dense? Is there room for the bread flour? Does sound tasty.

I have been sitting here staring through a clear glass of Bombay Sapphire, wondering where the color comes from. And then, wondering where the color goes... So many questions, so little time...

^I think a little tast might help you answer those questions.

Coffee, and an Essential Vitamin Water. I've had a blasted cold for more than two weeks and I felt worse than the first couple of days this morning.

There is absolutely no cure for the common cold. Period.
So a little medical advice;
When you have a cold that hangs on and hangs on and just won't go away, especially in winter time, do the following.... 50 fast Jumping Jacks followed by 10 minutes of fast rope skipping followed by another 50 fast Jumping Jacks. That should work up a good sweat. Then remove all your clothes, throw open the windows, and stand in the breeze until you get a good chill! Voila!

No, this doesn't get rid of your cold. It turns it into pneumonia. But THAT can be cured quickly and easily with a course of antibiotics. So simple when you think about it, right?

G'night, all!

Truth. Although it does seem that taking zinc supplements at the onset of a cold can reduce the duration and severity of the cold.

The common cold only lasts about seven days from first symptoms. If you're ill much longer than a week, it's possible that you have a secondary infection, and that might need treatment.

Having worked at a Japanese run company for 10 years, that sounds perfectly normal and delicious. But would certainly seem strange to most of my neighbours.

It can't be, but there is a 'work-around' that is used by hundreds of bakeries in New York City...(and probably every other city with small ethnic bakeries.) It's actually illegal for them to do so, but they use left-over bread ground up and worked into the dough as it's being kneaded. This adds that depth of flavor that is usually missing in home made breads that don't use an overnight process.
This is the basic premise of sourdough bread, and why they can be so very good. Of course with true sourdough, you don't add any yeast at all, and obviously it's left over dough you're adding to the next day's batch.

I'm going to be rather light on the forum for the next week. Serious deadlines. So take it as a given that my morning starts with Peet's Major Dickason's and fresh squeezed OJ. After that, anything goes until the evening, when it's either Talisker 10yr, or Bowmore 18yr. (there are other choices, but those are the most likely this week.)

2 cups of bread flour and 2 cups of whole wheat flour. It is very dense. Good though. I do wonder how to make it a bit less dense.

You ask how much I need you, must I explain?
I need you, oh my darling, like roses need rain.
You ask how long I'll love you; I'll tell you true:
Until the twelfth of never, I'll still be loving you.

Hold me close, never let me go.
Hold me close, melt my heart like April snow.

I'll love you till the bluebells forget to bloom;
I'll love you till the clover has lost its perfume.
I'll love you till the poets run out of rhyme,
Until the twelfth of never and that's a long, long time.

( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9SFt...eature=related )

Good morning, all! I had a dream about Iridal last night... I hope she's found her soul mate!

East India Company's "Keemun Downy Bud" in my cup today. It sits beside some freshly baked Brioche and a nice Brie that is simply oozing out of its rind. This seems to be a good 'triple play to start the day!' (A little poetry there...)

It did take me a year or two to break the daily western habit of baoon and eggs with a side of toast, or pancakes or some sort of boxed cereal. The fact was, I really never new about all the different things people around the world ate for breakfast! Beans on toast? Rice gruel with dried fish? Even the Dutch practice of putting chocolate bits or dried fruit and nuts of oatmeal was almost unknown. The idea of soup, rice, and salted daikon, eggplant, or cabbage almost made me gag the first time I saw it. I have a friend in the US who is so conditioned that he can't eat 'traditional' westerner lunches unless he's first had a traditional western breakfast. If he's missed breakfast for some reason, he'll have toast, scrambled eggs and bacon for his lunch! Me? I'm just has happy with a cheeseburger, muesli, jook, hummus, tabooli, or bread dipped in olive oil to start the day. For me, time is just a way of keeping things from all happening at once.

Hmmmm.... an interesting problem.... I guess the methods I use for loosening my garden soil probably won't work here; perlite or peat moss...

How about removing it from the machine, letting it rise longer than usual, and baking int the oven?

I'm going to have a second mug of Keemun tea and think about this.

mmmmm Cheeseburger. I am so looking forward to a Cheeseburger and fries tomorrow night.

That is if my weight has stayed stable this last month. It is my reward for being well behaved and getting off my butt to go to the gym. I know I am not in a position to loose weight but I can gain weight sensibly.
