Why not orange juice? No chemical conflicts with the two together. Some people say not to take aspirin with carbonated beverages, but those don't really cause any problems either. I like to take aspirin with something caffeinated, as that increases the potency of the aspirin. This used to be sold as a tablet called 'APC's' (Aspirin, Caffeine, and Phenacetin,) but discontinued beacause of adverse side effects from the phenacetin.

Hot chocolate in my mug this afternoon, with some freshly made whipped cream!

Splendid. I have a Panasonic breadmaker, and use it very nearly every day to have fresh bread in the mornings. A 'granary' loaf today - a malted loaf with whole grains added. Delicious.

And Coke Zero in my cup, the first of the day.

Thanks everyone. Much better today, I must say, but I am beginning to wonder whether I might maybe have had my first bit of gout....? Just wondering... Red wine plus chocolate plus fatty food over 10 days, really not a good combination...
So as of today, I will go without butter, bread, rice, pasta, chocolate and wine for a few days and see how that goes. Keeping the potatoes to mix with veggies, but staying away from red meat and pork too. Hopefully this will help, because I have such a lack of energy right now, this is definitely not me!!!

Gee, and while I am writing this, you guys keep talking about fresh bread.....!

If it is gout, then bread's OK. What you should avoid in that case is meat, seafood and alcohol. And take extra vitamin C. And apparently, coffee's good too. (All according to Wikipedia, so do your own research!)

A great big mug of Jackons of Piccadilly's "English Breakfast" tea that I scored in a small shop last night! All is good in our world!

I really need to get back in the habit of making fresh bread. I could use a piece of bread with some peanut butter when I get home from work, I think that would help me with my daily 6 PM energy crash. And it tastes so good.

Glad you are feeling better. If you think it might be gout, go talk to a doctor. There are things that they can do for gout.

OJ to go with my cereal and skim milk.

I have been delighted with my breadmaker. While I could *and have) made bread by hand, it's a lot easier to just measure the ingredients into the machine and set the timer. Five minutes, tops.

Orangeade with zero added sugar.

We've tried several breadmakers over the years, but none really did a good enough job. We do, however, use a large, old KitchenAid to do the heavy kneeding.

Finished my Peet's Major Dickason's. Now, fresh squeezed blood orange juice.

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Good morning, all! It finally snowed last night! Not enough to build a Snowperson (unless it's the size of a cat) but enough to say "Yippee! It's officially winter!" It's already melted off the streets and sidwalks, but the higher mountains are covered in white! Beautiful to see!

"Royal Breakfast" tea from the East India Company along with my breakfast today. I bought some 'Apple Smoked Bacon' from the new Costco that has me drooling at the thought...

I really am amazed at the results of the new bread machines. The one I originally had that turned me off the the machines was good for nothing but making pizza dough. Everything else came out rather poorly. So far with this new machine, every loaf has come out perfectly! (Unless I blow the measurements, which I've done once already...)

I was looking at the new Panasonic that is sold here, that also doubles as a rice cooker and has a huge loaf pan too, but it sells for $450 US... I paid $50 for my machine. Except for the rice making ability, it appears to have the same programs, except for an 'automatic' ingredient hopper for things to be added into the kneaded dough midway through the cycle.

Prof, it was your comments about your breadmaker that prompted me to try to use one again. I was dead set against them. Now I'm making bread 2-3 times a week!

Having now severely covered the kitchen with flour, I've learned to take at least seven minutes rather than five...

That 'was' my original thinking too, having tried several before. But that was then, and this is now. The machines really HAVE changed, and the resulting breads coming out of them are very different from the machines I used in the past. French breads have a thick, chewy crust but a delicate crumb, the seeded rye breads are perfect for sandwiches, the Brioche bread we made the other day was almost sinfully delicious, and the Muesli bread reminded me of Switzerland!

And now... with a second mug of tea, I'm off to make my bacon, and eat it with the leftover bread I made for dinner last night!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...w_myk_ro_title This book is awesome. We have loved every recipe we have made from it. It is really, really good. Well worth buying. I have it on my Kindle and in paper back.

The bread makers today are great. I wish the loaf pan looked more like a normal loaf. I am toying with the idea of just using the dough cycle and then baking the bread in the oven.

So far, my only dislike to the machine is having a hole in the bottom of my loaf. Messes up my slices when I want sandwiches. I don't have a 'regular' oven, only an Airstream Oven and although I 'can' bake bread in it, I don't care for the way it comes out. It works for round 'peasant breads' and heavy rye or black breads, but not so well for rectangular loaves of the lighter types.
