If you want a truly light travel reader the Kindle Basic weighs nothing. Well it weighs something but you really can't tell it's so light! The Kindle Fire HDX feels lighter than a PW with sleep cover which is funny because the specs say 11 ounces but it's so thin you wouldn't even know it. The Origami case on the HDX weighs a ton! I bought a different case and the weight change from it is amazing! My two heaviest Kindles are the Kindle Keyboard and the Original Kindle Fire.

KFHD 2012 - 1 lb. 2.2 oz.

1lb! OMG No wonder I couldn't hold that case! It's one big magnet too so it messed with my arthritis.

11.2 ounces seems a little heavy on the PW1 to me.

It was really heavy I would say it added alot of weight on the HDX. So if the HDX is 11 ounces, 5 ounces for the case sounds about right to me. It's one big heavy magnet the case is! I sent mine back. It was too heavy to hold with one hand and now I know why. The HDX without a case feels lighter than the K3 to me.

FWIW, I just went and weighed them on their own on my postal scale.

7.65 oz. on the PW1
7.35 oz. on the PW2

Yeah I knew it suppose to be lighter but several reviewers said it felt heavier I think it's all about distribution, My guess is the new screen or processor.

The K3 I have is 8.7 ounces and the HDX is 11 ounces and the HDX feels much lighter than the K3. The K4 I believe it like 6 ounces and the HDX feels just a little bit more heavier than that but it's alot bigger than a K4. These are all without cases of course.

I've had my PW2 for about two weeks or so at this point. I haven't found any flaws with mine yet. I've gone from a Keyboard, so it's a big upgrade. I like that collections are easier to maintain (imagine going through 200 samples individually to add to a collection. Yeah, I was doing that with the Keyboard, since I basically sample every non-fiction book before I buy. The checkboxes are so much easier). The lighting on mine is fine, refresh rate is pretty good... everything is good with mine.

That case doubles as a stand. If it was flimsy, it would collapse.

By the way, the case for the HD 2012 was also supposed to double as a stand but it kept collapsing on me. I had to buy another stand from Amazon.

The HDX 2013 case works great as a stand.

Careful mine lost its strength after two days and collapsed which is one of the reasons I returned it. I also read three different reviews where the magnets lost its strength and the Kindle fell out of the case. I think it's just not smart to make a case where the unit is held on by a magnet only!

My case is thin and light and flimsy and the stand works great on it. It also is a pop in case so the HDX can't fall out. Best $3 I have paid for a case.

Wow, the HDX is held on to the case with just magnets? Is that an official Amazon case? Did they add extra magnets in the HDX body to make it work with the case? If so, bad design IMO as that is adding extra weight.

No the the case is the magnet. The HDX has metal in it I guess that attracts it. Yes the HDX is held to the case by a very strong magnet nothing else. The case is hefty!

The front flap is one big magnet. The inside base is one big magnet and the back side is metal. The front flap sticks to the back by a magnet for one hand reading. I thought that part was pretty cool till I try to read with it. There was no where to grip it and it was too heavy to hold with one hand. All of this is coated in polyurethane. Add the weird cut out shape of the front flaps which are the stand part. In Landscape it works okay if the magnet flap sticks together on Portrait it's crooked and you have hold it to look at the screen straight.

It's one of the worse ideas I have seen on a case! Let s hope they do add this to the PW as I love the PW case and wish they make one for the HDX!

The case I now have is very similar to the PW case except the front folds with magnets for portrait stand that works well and it's super light. They make on for the Nexus too! I paid $3 for the first one and bought a second one for $5. The promo is over and they are back up in price. I got the Official Amazon Zip Sleeve coming for when I travel for extra protection. I only paid $10 for it!

The Amazon Paperwhite case is well worth the price! I love it. It feels like a book when I am holding it and I can easily hold it with one hand. The Amazon HDX case is too heavy and awkward and I can't recommend it.

Oh! I saw the new PW2 today at BB! The store demo had some issues. Too many kids pawing at it for me to play with it. I just got over a bug and don't need another one but I did look at it and it was as everyone said Very yellow with grey text. I looked to see if they had a 2012 in stock. I would have bought one but they didn't.

I had a few yellow ones with gray text, but there are ones out there with darker text and more of a beige background. It's pretty much luck of the draw though. I know others will disagree, but from my personal experience the text on the PW1 is almost always darker than the PW2's. Or at least it appears so.

FYI the case for the 2012 Fire HD is just like the one for the Paperwhite, in design. Both cases are awesome!

I have 2 of those same style poetic cases for our Nook HD tablets. I like them.

I've received my international PW2 today. I haven't detected pinholes, but I see some "green" areas. It doesn't bother me too much and since is an international order, probably it won't be that easy to return it and get another one.

What do you think?

Yeah last year's HD case was great but it doesn't fit the HDX. The HDX is thin! I don't know what to compare it to. It's the thinnest I have seen on a tablet or eReader. It's really light too doesn't feel like a tablet. I think the form factor on the HDX is amazing! I don't see the next Fire being any thinner or lighter unless it's a smaller screen.
