Get an iGo setup. One charger, tips as needed for various devices. The A97 tips charges my BT headset and my 650.
I also have tips to charge mini-USB (my Motorola Razr and PRS-600), my Palm, and my iPhone. Simple, easy, cheaper and easier to carry than multiple chargers. |

I really like the Charge Anywhere charger. Use as a wall wart, but it has two USB connectors for charging cables. And it has an internal battery to charge when you can't plug into the wall. 100 - 240V input. http://www.igo.com/mobile-device-cha...t/ps002730001/ |

Have you tried to charge PRS-650 from igo's internal battery? I just wonder how much would it charge the reader, 1,2,3 bars? How long would it take? |

Power adapter from Monoprice
I just purchased some AC to USB adapters from Monoprice for my iPhone 4. They work fine on charging my PRS-650. The description is “High-Speed WALL Power to USB Female Converter (1000mA) – Black” The item number is 6767. While they are kind of cheap feeling, at USD $2.16 each they are ok.
Item number 6767 Input: AC 100-240 V, 50/60Hz Output: DC 5V +/-5%, 1A max, 150 ma min. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 They also have cables for ~ USD 1.00 each. I already had the cables so did not purchase from them. http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...&cs_id=1030307 Last edited by switchman2210; 01-12-2011 at 12:59 PM. Reason: Add specs. |

Funny prices. Literally
![]() How can Sony price their adapter so high? I understand premium price for premium reader. But adapter? |

Just to be clear it up and make sure I understand...on the one you recommend Switchman, it's the cable that makes it work, not the wall plug. As far as I'm aware from other people saying it doesn't work properly, you need to have a cable that doesn't have data on it, just a power cable which you must have already had?

I simply hooked the adapter to the PRS-650 and verified, the LED turned red and that the battery indicator in the lower right hand of the screen went solid with the arrow to the right that indicates it is charging. I only left it on ~15-20 seconds as I was on my way to work and wanted to give it a quick test. I purchased the charger to keep at work for my iPhone. I will put it on the charger and top my battery off tonight just to make sure it works for a longer time period. My battery is currenty at about 75% charged, so it should not take long to charge. I will update this thread tommorow with the results. |

Part of the reason is that the chargers supplied by SONY have actully been tested for safety/fire risk, i.e they carry a real UL or CE mark. If the design is changed, they have to be retested. The no name cheap chargers have not had that testing, they could be UL certified OEM designs just repackaged, but I would not count on it. While I will use one of these cheap charger, I do not leave them charging overnight or if I am gone. I also will not leave any LiLo battery charging if I am not at home or awake. The only exception is the cell phone which I use with an OEM charger, I will leave it on the charger overnight.

OK, when I got home, I looked at my PRS-650. It was sitting on the standby screen with a warning of low battery. I woke it up and the charge indicator was sitting at no bars. I plugged it into the monoprice charger with my generic cable and it started charging. I came back an hour later and unplugged the charger. The charge indicator showed a full charge with all bars filled in. I don't believe it was a 100% charged though, so I put it back on the charger and will unplug it before I go to bed.
I am a little concerned that I believe that when I looked at it this morning, it indicated ~75% charge but when I looked at it tonight it was almost totally discharged. Sitting in the sleep screen should not have used that much battery. I will watch it to see if I have a problem. To get back to the original posting, the particular chargers I received will charge both my iPhone 4 and my Sony PRS-650 reader. This is the cable I purchased on e-bay. It is a $1.50 shipped. It is a generic cable. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT Last edited by switchman2210; 01-13-2011 at 12:25 AM. Reason: added ebay cable |

Apple could have changed to be standard. There's no real excuse to still be non-standard other then to sell your own non-standard wall warts & cables.

That is so wrong. Not any wall wart will work. We have some wall warts from Apple that do not work with the 650.
