Because I can carry all of my books with me all the time. And I do not have to search through my physical collection to find my next read.

I mostly read books in english, since the books I wan't to read, don't get translated to danish that often. And I was getting a little angry over the fact, that postage from buying physical books often was more than the actual book price.
And my wife was getting worried about the shelf space at our house. So first a Hanlin, and now a kindle, has changed the price for reading, and saved shelf space. |

Your libraries just don't know how to do a proper renovation. A local branch did a renovation not that long ago and they were still open while it was going on. Sure a lot of materials were stored during the renovation, but I could still get things delivered there no problem.

I hate reading sitting at the computer. I like to lie down. I have a lot of things I have to read for college, and after reading a kindle review, I realised I would be able to transfer most of the stuff to my kindle. I bought a K2, but I think it cost me something like $300. That sounds crazy now, doesn't it?

Our bookcase shelves were creaking at night. So the decision was made that no more dead tree fiction books were to be purchased. The ebook rules here

I got an e-reader to well, read books. I got a Nook Color so I can check the web while at a coffee shop or download more books to read.

Because I'm highly mobile, and after being so for long enough, it killed my reading.
I hate getting rid of my books. But when you're confined to a suitcase, well... you can only justify carrying so many books. So I would up with a handful of books I'd read a million times over, occasionally dumping them in storage when I had the chance but sometimes it was over a year between stop-offs. That is a really crappy system. Reading became a huge inconvenience. So my reading dwindled. I'd heard of ereaders but I'd never seriously considered getting one. Then I saw one. That screen. I was just... perfect. For some reason I had imagined it sucking as much to read on as a tablet screen. I'm not sure why - I'd just never seen one in person. That made me want one. So I got one. And it was good. |

It might have just been 'cool gadget' factor. But, it has been helping us clear out the book shelves. And being able to bring an entire library with you when you travel is really great.

I got sick of owning a pbook collection. I had over 300 pbooks for a few years. Reading them became a failed and hopeless endeavor. Maintenance/reorganizing was also a pain. I had enough and decided to purge them all. Plus, I wanted to move towards a more minimalist lifestyle. I only recouped a micro-fraction of what I spent on the pbooks, but that didn't matter in the end. I loved donating them to the libraries. I don't miss the departed books at all. Right now, I have 5 or 6 pbooks. They may even be donation fodder too.
Additionally, I was tired of the local libraries not having the books I was interested in. |

Well it embarrasses me to admit this but if by ultimate one means what first induced me to bu my first e-reader (Sony PRS 505) it was because a friend had and e-reader (different manufacturer and not even e-ink) and I thought it was so cool that I just had to have one. What kept me using it and led me to upgrade to the Sony 900, and now also a Nook Color, is that it is such a great platform for obtaining, storing, and reading books.

With bad eye sight I had been reading books via a Palm (different models but ultimately a TX) for many years. When I saw a reasonably priced unit in Canada (the Kobo) I jumped on the band wagon.

So i guess because i like reading after all? |
