While I agree with your overall point, the closed nature of the Apple ecosystem relates to the OS and Apps, not the content, at least from a reading perspective. There's no dedicated ebook device that can read as much as the Apple devices, and I don't believe any of the computer/tablet devices can read more right now. The only content that I can't put on my iPhone/iPad is Sony content. That's why if I could only have one ebook device it would be the iPad.

This was a big selling point for me. I want wide access to books, and I don't want to do any conversion hokey pokey if I can avoid it. That also carries over to content. I won't buy iBooks, because they're tethered to Apple devices. When I switch to another tablet, I don't want to be forced to stick with Apple so I can keep access to my content.

Hey, I got my $25 gift card today! I would rather have had the PRS 600 at $100 but I'll take the card.

I made 2 separate orders of 1 each ( a red one which I had shipped to myself and a silver one that I had shipped to my sister); we both received our $25 dollar gift cards yesterday and I gave her mine and she was able to order the red one for store pick-up for $149 using both of our gift cards!

I did receive my $25 gift card today. My other gift card I had used to buy the 600 is said to have been mailed yesterday. So I should get it Monday or Tuesday.

I wish it had been real, but am looking forward to getting that gift card soon.

Note to self: Do not put your reader on top of your car and drive away.

At least the case survived and still seems functional.
