It looks like email and calendar syncing requires connectivity with your PC or a blackberry to work, most likely over wifi or bluetooth. So don't expect the 3G version to offer free email connectivity. Now, that may make it worth it... In one of the CES videos, gmail synching was mentioned, but that may be in conjunction with Good Technology. It would seem annoying to remember to have your PC running so your Que can sync your emails / appointments or to have your blackberry's power-sucking bluetooth always on.

From what I've seen so far, I really like the clean iconic interface. It's very web 2.0 and makes the interfaces on the other readers look very early-days-of-the-web-with-netscape. The barnes and noble book store looked nice and way way better than what irex showed on their dr800 debut demo, which was simply the mobile BN website.

As a business user that may be running in and out of the office, it would be wonderful to run into the office and answer some phone calls, meet some clients and then run back out --- and to have had your PC push your latest emails and/or calendar updates to the Que.

And to have my PC running -- I expect that I will have the PC on 24/7 at the office. That way, I have access to to it by remote connect and can continue to work from home, etc.

My biggest concern is that, on the Que website, it says that I will HAVE TO HAVE Microsoft Office in order for the Que to be able to read *.doc files.
Why? If I am using WordPerfect or OpenOffice and save in *.doc format, why can't I "print" to the Que without having Microsoft Office.

If you're printing to PDF, or something like that, then you're not reading DOC files; you're reading PDF files.

i guess the easiest work around is to just save files as a PDF and "print".

Thanks Harry

This is fairly common, Windows MobiPocket Reader requires MS Office to convert .doc to .mobi for example. The basic point is that it isn't the .doc that gets copied to your QUE but rather a QUE-compatible format, most likely PDF.

Do we know for certain that the Que has a capacitive touch screen? They weren't terribly accurate, the last that I heard about them.

In the detailed engadget hands on video the Plastic Logic rep said it was capacitive, but that they turned down the sensitivity in certain areas/applications to avoid spurious contact. From the video it was accurate enough to use a keyboard, but I do wonder about document markup.

From the video, it sounded like some elements of the homepage requires a long-press to minimize accidents while others did not. After watching that video, it seems important for them to have the device support rotation in the other direction so the home button is at the top to minimize accidental presses.

Ok, where is it mentioned that the touch layer is UNDER the e-ink or somehow non-existant? The Engadget article vaguely hints at this but I haven't seen any official backing or other mention of that. Can you even have a capacitive screen with no top layer (perhaps using the e-ink film itself)?

Does anyone know if this has any audio support? I don't see anything about speakers, headphone jack, or any audio file support on their specs page.

I know it may not be important to the high-end business market, but it seems odd on something this expensive that they'd leave out even a basic mp3 player and headphone jack, which nearly all cheap eReaders have.

Answer to some questions from a Barnes and Noble Support site

Does the Que respond to a stylus? It appears the answer is No

Does the Que have audio support? Again, the answer is No

For more answers, see the Que checklist
