I did install IE 7 on my XP system. Maybe Reader Library needs IE 7 or 8 and if you have 6, it's no go?

UPDATE: It wasn't the software. Sony Support says that the 300 software won't work on the 505.

But they recommended several things, one of which worked - a hard reset. http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/d...rnalId=C441368

I made sure that I had everything copied off the 505, then did a hard reset which solved the problem with Library. Then I went into the Store, reauthorized the 505 - which required that I reauthorize with ADE as well.

As long as I was messing around, I pointed my calibre library at the location of the Sony book files. Then I put an alias to that file on my desktop, and one in my download folder, so that from now on, all my books, articles &c are going into the same folder. It will be interesting to see what calibre & Library do with them.

I just finished redownloading everything to my netbook. 32 books out of 249 were not available, or about 13%. Not too bad. All I have left to do now is connect my Reader to my netbook and see how it goes.

If so it's certainly not the Library software but something with IE or Firewall or Virus protection.

Do you have Firefox or another browser? if not maybe download Firefox and see if you can get there using it. Might give you another clue.
No, I can go to that website with no problem. I just cannot open the Reader Library, and not being able to do that makes the above website worthless.

It really is frustrating to say the least. It is probably some quirky crap with my pc, but it is way beyond me as I have tweaked, turned off, reloaded everything I can think of.

Have you tried removing - COMPLETELY - the Sony Library and reinstalling?
That's about the only other thing I can suggest other than calling Sony Support.

I re-downloaded all my purchased books from the Reader Store and noticed a couple of problems. 1) I now have 3-5 duplicate ePub versions for most of my books , and 2) the LRX versions of a few of my books have been deleted, leaving only the ePub versions.

Not quite what I was hoping for.

Anyone else run into anything like this? I was already aware that almost no feedback is given when downloading books, and was therefore quite careful, so I don't think I could have accidentally hit the download button five times (I used the "download all checked" button rather than doing each book individually).

It's been my experience is that from (a Windows) platform; v2.5 no longer works, you must have v3 or 3.1 installed before you can download books from Sony's library. As I've never been able to successfully download v3 or 3.1, I'll no longer be permitted to purchase/download books from Sony.

The one I posted in my original & the one above are identical. I'm reposting on the off chance it will work now. But here are the instructions for the 505 per the Mobileread Wiki: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Sony...der#Hard_Reset

Hard Reset

(erases all contents)

* If the device is on, slide the "Power" so that it turns off. Look for a small pinhole on the back panel (not the side, that's the charging indicator LED) and press the reset button on the back using a bent paper clip (do not use anything sharp like a pin).
* Slide the "Power" button to turn it on. While the screen displays "Starting up ...", you will see the light above the "Power" button flash in yellow. Wait for 35 to 40 seconds, then proceed to hold down the "MARK" and "VOL +" buttons.

(NOTE on the PRS505, do not wait those 35~40 seconds, push and hold the "Mark" and "VOL +" buttons immediately -- the boot window is shorter on 505s)

* CONTINUE TO keep these 2 buttons pressed for about 5 to 10 seconds, until the round "PAGE" button makes a quick blue flash.
* CONTINUE to keep these 2 buttons pressed for another 25 seconds, the screen will show a "Reset All" message, and ask to delete all content.
* Press button '5' to clean up content, this could take several minutes if you have many files on the Reader. When the deletion completes, the Reader will turn off.
* Press the "Power" button to turn it on; this could take several minutes if you have many files on the Reader.
* Connect your device to your PC and log-in to the store.
* Go to Account>Manage Devices – you will be asked if you’d like to authorize this device to your account. Please say yes.
* Your device should be ready to read eBooks purchased from your account.

Excuses don't work with macs - there don't seem to be any except "I just wanna." The damned things last forever. I have a working Color Classic circa 1996, I think. It finally just got too obsolete, but it still runs Sim City.

I'm currently using an iMac which I believe we got for # 5 son in 2005. HE got a new laptop when he went off to college. Good old Dad got the handmedown. Before that, I was using desktop we got for # 4 son in 2000. Still works, too. I'm going to offload the data & give it to charity.

I really truly need a <insert latest model mac> but it is difficult to convince my wife when her Powerbook is from 2004 and works just fine, even without being able to run Snow Leopard.

I wonder if I'm going to have the same problem with my Readers.
