1) do you have /database/system/PRSPlus.js /database/system/PRSPlus-addons folder with corresponding files etc in internal memory? 2) If the answer to previous question is yes, what was the original firmware version, before you've started flashing? If flahsing was successfull and JS files are where there should be (in internal memory), UI should change a bit, menu fonts become smaller (you can change it back via addon settings if you want). Fifth menu option must be "Browse Folders". And you don't need to create /database/media/books on SD card. You don't even need them on IM (though that's where sony library copies books to) as this is a configurable options in "Browse Folders". |

Someone suggested basing PRS+ on French (I guess UK is based on the same code) firmware, as it had built-in mechanism for multi-language support. But the problem with it is, it's nearly 2 megabytes bigger (I guess mostly due to additional fonts) and consumes nearly entire /opt quota. |

Kartu,
Thanks for all your help. Now it's working, with Browse Folders the fifth menu item, and submenus, the SD card, IM, and a Produo MM card I have. All my books are on the SD card, the Produo I use for new articles I want to throw on the Sony Reader to read fast without having to re-scan the entire database of 2300 books on the SD, is my hope. But the only problem I seem to be having now is getting the .noscan to work right. I used notepad to create .noscan.txt - but it does not seem to stop the scanning. I've played around with it, rebooting several times, and it keeps scanning the cards each time I turn the Reader on. I've readi all messages in this thread, and I've tried to create a .noscan document for myself from previous discussions about .noscan which you might edited a little to explain how to do it correctly, and then have one clear document to point other people to: How to disable card scanning: Copy any file to the reader (e.g. in Windows Explorer, right click on an image, choose Copy, then open the Reader, right click in an empty space and click Paste) and rename it to ".noscan" Regarding the ".noscan" file, one of the easy ways is opening notepad and saving the file with type "any file" (or whatever it's called) and the given name. Could you re-check, if ".noscan" file is present on SD card (in the root folder)? If it is, delete it. If not, and you still cannot open books directly, that's a bug. The only way to disable file scanning at the moment is having the mentioned file in card's root directory. If you have .noscan in SD root, nothing is loaded from the card. (this allows one to put libraries with tens of thousands files on it) At the moment you either disable scan, or can open files from the card, but not both. If you've deleted the .noscan file, just remove/insert the SD card, you should be able to open books with Books by Folder. It shows "copy the file" only when it cannot find the book in the reader's book database. Should .noscan not have a .txt extension? should it be .jpg? or what? Or is the extension .noscan? Whateverfilename.noscan? Sorry for all the very unsophisticated problems and questions. But I really appreciate the way you've written this code and the changes it makes to the Sony Reader. It looks like exactly what I've wanted for over two and half years! An easy way to import the folders I already have all my ebooks in pdf, text, epub, etc., sorted into, and keep the structure, so I can find them on the Sony Reader, instead of changing and mixing them all up! .noscan should have NO extension. Entire filename is just ".noscan". Quote:
Maybe if this project will become popular, Sony will reconsider this decision, after all, their Walkman mp3 player supports folders. Last edited by kartu; 12-28-2009 at 11:00 AM. |

The date is the only thing that's different as far as I can tell.
In fact by just ignoring your new_opt.img file and copying the rest of the files to both the US and UK folders, your browse by folders works as a "UK" centric ie "proper" date ![]() I'm still trying to get the fonts hack to work but it just ignores my fonts (ie combining things as per pepaks mods earlier) so I'm still digging around. |

Igorsk's universal flasher can replace particular files. So the only thing that you need to do in second step is: get folder corresponding to your firmware, that would contain only fonts (in corresponding folder of course, /opt/sony/ebook/don't remember) but not the other files. |

Same as fglaysher, I recopied all files from PRS-PLUS and Igorsk flasher on to the SD card
and IM. Disconnected and it accepted #4 copying to tmp, then #6, started rebooting, then Reader 505 was blocked in the page "Reader starting up ..." I plugged the USB cable but nothing. The FW installer don't recognize the Reader, so I can not reinstall Sony's Update to 1.1.00.18040, but I can see the internal memory folders. I did a reset but nothing. The reader stop in "READER starting up..." after flashing amber light. But after hours, the reader don't work. Only the message "starting up..." Thks for help! jeshule Last edited by jeshule; 12-28-2009 at 01:03 PM. |

PRS-505 Updater 1.1.00.18040 when the message "starting up" was on the screen. I gave it a shot, and it worked, though the message for the version was 0000 or something, meaning no version was given. Worked for me. Good luck! |

First, don't worry, you'll unbrick it. Try to do what fglaysher suggested, if it doesn't work, try to connect right after it restarts. If that doesn't work, reset it 10+ times, and it will automatically fall into firmware reset mode. (version is reset to 000000) I still wonder what could be the cause of your problem. Are you sure that you had version 1.1.00.18040? Did you use other hacks before? |

Try it several times at different boot phases. If it doesn't work, do the 10+ reboots way. Have in mind, that you have to reset it each time RIGHT after startup screen shows up. The mechanism behind "10+" reboots is, that device cannot startup. Since you get quite far with it (drives are mounted) it's important, that you don't let the system start up and report "ok" internally, before resetting. |

The same way you did it before. It's just when browsing folders, you won't see pictures/music. But all other methods will function as before. |

I bought a german 505. Then, I installed the PRS-505 Updater 1.1.00.1804. After that I installed the spanish hacks. All right until I wanted install the PRS-Plus over the reinstalled 1.1.00.1804. I think I removed the SD card before the #6 process was finished, I don't remember it. After that, I reset the reader several times but It blocked in the first step "starting up..." and de installer can not see it, but I can see the internal memory folders. |
