Thanks.

Yes, working on it. Performance will go way up after the redesign to a multi-flow editing environment.

All of your CSS files are copied to <style> tags which you can see (and edit) in Code View. The <style> tags are converted back to explicit CSS files on export.

But a dedicated CSS editor should come with the aforementioned redesign.

I've been thinking about exposing the internals of Sigil to an embedded version of Python (or Lua, or C# through embedded Mono). This should let you do what your asking, and much more.

What do others think of this?

See this thread for embedding permanent fonts on a Reading Device for use in all epubs. It's for the Sony Reader's, but maybe there's some information for BeBook users. Especially if BeBook uses ADE.

I was planning on shipping 0.1.0 with font embeding support, but the Qt Framework (on which Sigil is built) has some bugs in this area so the feature was left out. Point being, some memory issues are causing Qt's version of WebKit to segfault on exit if the application uses localy referenced fonts. It's a bit complicated. Some font embedding functionality is still present in Sigil but is unsupported.

I've tested Sigil against the tech preview of the next version of Qt (4.6.0), and it doesn't seem to crash. Still fails to load alternate fonts though...

I'll take another look at this when 4.6.0 ships, which should be in about a month or two. If they haven't fixed it by then, I'll bloody well fix it myself in a forked version of Qt. Nokia is starting to piss me off on this and many other Qt issues.

Not currently. It should have been done already, but I forgot since it wasn't on the issue tracker. So add it as a new issue.

Great work with Sigil! I really like it and I can't wait to see it blossom with all the new features that are in the works. One question I had which might be a bit silly:

Is it possible to have a footer and header in EPUB books like in the case of LRF books? I guess with HTML, it would have to be some kind of static frame/block. Dunno if that is actually supported or do-able. I do like to have a footer with the current chapter in most of my ebooks so it would be nice to have that.

All in all, as I have been tinkering with epub ebooks, I am liking it more and more. The formatting looks great and is easy to modify and tweak with simple css rules.

Thanks for all the great work!

Yes, it's in the OPS specification (scroll down to the footnotes). Sadly I don't know of a Reading System that supports it yet.

Thanks for the link Valloric. Looks like it is in the specifications just fine. So if I understand what you said, even if I had a div with the header display style the PRS-505 won't display it?

AFAIK no. I haven't tested it myself, but I've heard ADE doesn't support it (and all the mobile devices that support epub are running the ADE SDK).

Linking ePub files to eachother

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to link ePub files to eachother?
For example linking a name in one ePub file to a biography in another ePub file?

I know it is possible to create links within the ePub file and to create links to (external) URL's, but what I mean is a "href link" in one ePub file to an anchor in another ePub file.

Not in any way that would work on multiple Reading Systems, no.

Is it possible to prevent the insertion of an extra line between text.
The coding of poem structure correctly inserts the blocks within <pre> tags, but still insists on an extra line feed/carriage return between each line such that;

aaaaaaaaaa
bbbbbbbbbb becomes

aaaaaaaaaa

bbbbbbbbbb

Also is there a way to supress the insistence of adding 4 character insert at the start of a new 'chapter' - other than manually manipulating the code ?
