Ok, I added spoiler tags around the graphic bits, but left them in (with enough text, I hope, to strongly hint at what is hidden. Any kid (or adult) that clicks the link (or checks out the freebies on their Kindle or the Amazon web site) will read the entire description. It's not the first one with this subject I've seen given away for free, but is one of the more graphic descriptions (another had a similar device involved and a similar description).

I do appreciate the more graphic description, as I have downloaded some that were in this same category, but no clue about it until it was on my lifetime library list.

Definitely not one for a family with kids sharing a Kindle account (one reason to have a "kids account" and an "adult account" (then again, I share with my over 70 mom, so there are some odd ones she sees now and then, but many she reads; most of which she probably would not want on the display page if she took the Kindle to church). A kid with one of these in school might end up suspended (or a parent in jail/turned in to social services/attacked by other irate parents, depending on the state and the age of the kids).

Yes and society might collapse and species go extinct.

The Network Imperative: Community or Contagion? by Yoram (Jerry) Wind and Paul R. Kleindorfer. This is the preface and chapter 1 in a new by-the-chapter business book, The Network Challenge (only chapter 17 is also available at the current time).

Serial by Jack Kilborn. This is the same short story previously available as a PDF or EPUB directly from the publisher, now on the Kindle, "a terrifying tale of hitchhiking gone terribly wrong."

Someone must read it (or at least buy it when it is free). Call Me has been heading up in the bestselling list of the free titles and has broken into the the top 25 (from a debut of 42 of 42 free titles not public domain).

At least Kindle libraries are a little more private than facebook pages (where archives have come back to bite more than one person, even a few years later). Myself, you'd be searching thru pages and pages of library "shelves" to find out what I might have purchased or read (and don't hold out any hopes of a political or beauty pageant career for it to be a problem). I've grabbed similar ones in the past, trained by Amazon to one-click before the deal changes, without reading the description (doesn't mean I'll read it, but someone on my account might want to, between now and when Amazon ceases to exist (hopefully far, far in the future) and my library shelves become inaccessible). At the least, your cheer of long live will (hopefully) be granted, by the permanence of Amazon Kindle purchases (even if you might wish you could truly delete them and pretend you didn't buy and/or read a particular book).

The Variant by John August - $0.99 [Short Story Spy-Fi]

Quote:
After 35 years working at the Central Library, Vincent Lewis has perfected the art of unremarkability. But when a terrified woman falls through his bathroom ceiling, he's forced back into a life of gunfights, double agents and paranormal research. The secret he's been keeping for nearly four decades might reunite him with his lost love, or kill millions.

This new short story by John August falls into the genre of paranoid "spy-fi" popularized by writers like Jorge Luis Borges and shows like The Prisoner and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

== About the Author ==

John August is the screenwriter of eight feature films, including Go, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride. He wrote and directed the 2007 movie The Nines.

He can be found on Twitter, @johnaugust

An excerpt of The Variant is available at johnaugust.com/variant

Thank you for this post. It was very nice not to have to wade through the texts to find books available on Kindle. I do appreciate it.
